Taylor’s Hypnobabies Hospital Induction

“I 100% give credit to Hypnobabies in helping me get to the 24-hour mark. The course gave me the tools to make it as far as I did! I consider myself still having a positive birth experience even with all the interventions my body needed.”

At 11 days past my guess date (Hypnobabies word for due date), my midwife decided to induce due to irregular heartbeats.

We went in on a Monday evening at 7:30 pm with 0 dilation. I was administered a cervix softener (Cytotec) that I was given for 10 hours. Their hopes were that my body just needed a kickstart and my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) would progress naturally. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

At 10:00 am 2 pool ball sizes balloons were blown up inside my cervix to start expanding. My birthing waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) were starting and I felt, “okay, my body is going to start reacting”. I got into the bathtub and started listening to my Birthing Day Affirmations and Deepening Your Hypnosis (Hypnobabies track to deepen the level of hypnosis). After the balloons were removed I had dilated to 3cm and my Midwife suggested Pitocin be administered. I was given Pitocin for 6 hours, upping the dosage every hour until I was receiving 12ml. At that point, I was having pressure waves lasting 30 seconds about a minute apart. I continued to listen to my tracks and maintain hypnosis.

At 5:00 pm and almost reaching the 24-hour mark, I was dilated to 4cm and physically and mentally exhausted. At that point, my husband and I began to discuss options and be realistic and how much longer my birthing time had left. I decided to receive an epidural at which I cried and felt guilty having to change my plan and opt for another route.

In the end, I am so grateful for the decision I made to accept that these things are a realistic part of birth and stories like mine are important as well as the ones that plans did go accordingly. After I received my epidural, my water was broken. However, there was basically no fluid left and I stayed at 4cm until 9 pm. Higher dosages of Pitocin were continued to be administered and at 11 pm I was finally dilated to 10 cm and was able to begin pushing.

My sweet baby boy entered this world at 12:33 am on Wednesday morning, July 31st.

I 100% give credit to Hypnobabies in helping me get to the 24-hour mark. The course gave me the tools to make it as far as I did! I consider myself still having a positive birth experience even with all the interventions my body needed. I am still empowered by the women who are able to achieve a Hypnobabies natural birth, unfortunately, my body was just not responding the way it needed to make it a reality for me.

I am grateful for this beautiful & healthy baby boy and the birth I was still able to have. 🧡
