I noticed a gush of fluid on Thursday Dec 13 after standing up to get out of bed, but then my pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) were super inconsistent, coming for 3 hours at a time 4-8 min apart but then dissipating. For those 3 days, I relied on my Hypnobabies practice to keep me calm and relaxed and comfortable. My amazing doula/midwife came over to check on me and baby after 24 hours with a leaking water bag, but because my fluids were all clear, I had no fever, and baby’s heart rate remained consistently strong, I resisted calling the hospital to tell them what was happening. I intuitively knew that they would want to induce me and give me antibiotics if I came in (since this is standard of care for 24 hours after a broken water bag). But I wanted my birthing experience to remain natural without Pitocin and without antibiotics.

My husband and I tried everything from beach walks to acupuncture and acupressure to yoga to the Miles circuit. Throughout all of it, I listened on repeat to my “Easy Comfortable Childbirth” (Hypnobabies hypnosis track), “Deepening Your Hypnosis” (Hypnobabies hypnosis track for deepening level of hypnosis), and “Easy First Stage” (Hypnobabies main birthing day track) on repeat. I also listened to my Birthing Time Begins (Hypnobabies reminder of all the tools and cues for birthing) and my Birthing Day Affirmations to keep me in a positive frame of mind. I am eternally grateful to Hypnobabies for allowing me to stay present, relaxed, and in tune with my body and my baby’s needs during those three days.

On Saturday evening Dec 15, I sat to meditate on the situation, applied Clary Sage essential oils to my ankles, practiced some yoga movements, listened to “Come Out Baby” (Hypnobabies track to encourage baby to be born) and sure enough I started noticing my pressure waves becoming stronger, longer, and closer together. My doula stayed on the phone with me to confirm this was actually my active birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) while my husband packed the car and got ready to leave for the hospital, which fortunately is just 5 min away.

At this point, I had Easy First Stage playing on a speaker on repeat (Listened with headphones in the car), and as we made our way to the car and into the hospital, it actually really helped everyone who greeted us to know my mind frame because they could hear what I could hear. The nurse checked me, and I was 5cm dilated, so they moved me into my birthing room, got me a birthing ball, and allowed my husband and I to move through each wave in various positions while monitoring baby intermittently. I felt so supported by the nurses and my midwife, it was incredible.

Eventually, my body took over and I felt like my son was making his way down for me to begin pushing. They wanted to monitor baby around this time and check my dilation … I was 10 cm after just three hours at the hospital!!! So, my husband put on the Pushing Baby Out (Hypnobabies tracks especially for pushing) track right as our doula arrived just in time to apply counterpressure, which felt amazing as I laid on my side with the peanut ball between my legs.

To be totally honest, I’m not sure if I was in hypnosis at this point, but having Hypnobabies playing on speaker in the background helped me refocus and breathe my baby down with each wave. Eventually, I changed positions several times to allow gravity to help him move into the birth canal, and finally it was time to push! In some ways pushing felt like a relief from the waves and I just tuned into my body telling me what to do and when. I was so grateful for the opportunity to experience such mother directed pushing and my birth team kept encouraging me with every wave.

I pushed for about an hour, finally ending up on my left side with my husband holding my top leg elevated until I was ready to pull my leg back and my doula pulling back my bottom leg as I pushed and breathed my son out. She kept saying, “breathe for your baby”, which really helped me to stay in tune with my breath between pushes. Eventually he began crowning and I let my body tell me when to push and for how long. As he made his way out, the cord was wrapped around his shoulders, so my midwife loosened the cord and out he came with several more pushes. It was such an incredible feeling to experience such an empowered and natural hypnobirthing. I am so grateful for my Hypnobabies practice, which kept me calm, relaxed, comfortable, and in tune with my baby throughout my entire birthing time. 🙏💖🙏 Truly there is no greater joy than the bliss of meeting and loving on this little being that grew inside me for 38 weeks and 5 days.💖💖💖💖💖
