Meagan’s Quick Hypnobabies Birth Center Waterbirth

“I went to the bathroom around noon and my midwife told me I should have a few waves while I was sitting on the toilet. 2 waves later, my water broke. I got into the tub and had my husband turn on the Pushing Baby Out track (Hypnobabies track just for pushing) out loud”

This was my third birth but first Hypno-baby. This was also my first birth at a birth center. I was having prodromal waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) in the evenings the whole week before my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) began. Sunday evening when my waves started I knew it was finally early in my birthing time because I could feel it in my back.

I went to bed around midnight listening to my Hypnobabies hypnosis tracks and woke up at 3:30 to the intensity of my waves getting stronger. I got in and out of the tub during the night. My waves were mainly in my back so my midwife suggested I go to the chiropractor to get an adjustment to make sure the baby was aligned properly.

At 9:15 we arrived at the chiropractor and she adjusted me and did some stretches. She said the baby’s head was slightly to the right so I’m glad I went in because she was able to engage his head. When we left the chiropractor, my midwife asked what time I wanted to meet her and I told her whatever was convenient for her so she said let’s meet at 11. I was only 15 minutes from the birthing center so we went there to wait for my midwife since I lived 40 minutes away.

At 9:45 we arrived at the birthing center. My waves were very intense in my lower back and were about 3-5 minutes apart. I stayed in hypnosis the entire time. My sister and husband brought my bags into the birthing suite while I sat on a ball and listened to my hypnosis tracks. During every wave, I would do a finger drop and one of my partners would place their hand on my shoulder (Doing the Relax cue which brings you deeper into hypnosis). At 11:15 my midwife checked me and said I was a stretchy 7/8. I had a few more waves lying in the bed.

I went to the bathroom around noon and my midwife told me I should have a few waves while I was sitting on the toilet. 2 waves later, my water broke. I got into the tub and had my husband turn on the Pushing Baby Out track (Hypnobabies hypnosis track just for pushing) out loud. I wasn’t comfortable on my back so I turned on all fours and instantly felt like pushing. I don’t remember hearing the track at that point but I still did my best to stay in hypnosis. The pressure was super intense and uncomfortable. My baby came out a few minutes later and I grabbed him and pulled him to my chest. Total time in the water was less than 10 minutes before I birthed my baby.

This was the most rewarding experience I have ever had in my life. Hypnobabies was such an amazing class. I completed the home study course since I have 2 other kids and did not have a live class nearby. I stuck to the home play (hypnosis practice) for the most part but did miss a track here and there. My husband and sister read over the information but did not really practice or prepare too much. They knew enough about the Hypnobabies vocabulary and cues to support me in my birthing time.

My entire birthing time consisted of pressure waves in my back which were extremely uncomfortable BUT being in hypnosis and remembering I could do anything for a minute at a time REALLY was my saving grace. Also having the Peace cue (Hypnobabies hypnosis cue for instant physical comfort) and having my partners press on my shoulders with the Relax hypnosis cue was a life saver. Every time they touched my shoulders, the discomfort got a little better. My midwife had not been in many hypno-births so she was shocked that I was so far along when she arrived. I was so relaxed and laid back that she thought I was hours away from giving birth right before my baby came. I have always dreamt of having a natural birth and Hypnobabies helped make that possible.
