Mallory’s Quick Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“It was so surreal that we had a little boy and that I didn’t have to use any drugs for his birth! The feelings were really intense and it was such a special moment and so different from my daughter’s birth.

He came at 1:25 pm, just about 45 minutes after we got to the hospital and it turned out I was at a 10 when she checked me after all! ☺️”

My hypno-baby was born 7/24 and here is his birth story which was such a good experience but

After my daughter’s birth which was very long and ending up using all the interventions I didn’t want with the exception of a c-section, I knew I wanted to try whatever I could to have a different birth experience. My recovery was very long after her birth and I knew with a toddler, that I really wanted a shorter recovery this time around. I stumbled upon Hypnobabies and decided to try it as it couldn’t hurt! I will admit I was a bit skeptical at first but committed to practice as much as I could which was pretty right on target with the exception of a few weeks that were really busy for our family. I was in maintenance for over 10 weeks.

I had Braxton Hicks starting at 16 weeks so I never really thought too much of pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) until I was finally around the guess date (Hypnobabies word for due date) and on that day I had irregular but consistent pressure waves starting in the morning that lasted for about 6 hours. I thought it might be the day since my daughter started to come right on her guess date, but they tapered out by the afternoon.

The next few days, I hardly had any pressure waves but I knew I was losing my mucus plug which I didn’t notice with my daughter so I knew things were progressing. The evening of 40+2 I was swimming with some girlfriends and noticed I was starting to get some pressure waves that were very spaced out so didn’t think too much of them. They were all excited though of course!

I went home and tried to go to bed early just in case to get some rest. That didn’t quite happen as my husband and I had to talk about a big decision. So finally, at 11 pm I went to sleep only to wake up at 2 am with more pressure waves. I still wasn’t sure if this was it but decided to start playing the Your Birthing Time Begins and  Fear Clearing (Hypnobabies track to release fear) tracks and then my Birthing Day Affirmations track. I hoped to fall back asleep but I didn’t. Pressure waves were inconsistent and the time intervals were all over the place so I kept doubting if it was time or not.

When my husband woke up for work at 6, I told him to go ahead and go to work as I wasn’t sure. He called his mom to come and watch our daughter just in case it was time. I just kept working through what pressure waves came by using my hypnosis through the next few hours. They started to taper out again and I felt a bit silly for thinking it was time but around 8, I fell asleep and didn’t feel any pressure waves for an hour until I was bolted awake with a really intense pressure wave that I was certain was going to break my water as everything got tight and felt like something was about to pop around my cervix but it didn’t. I waited 30 minutes to see if any more would come and two less intense ones did at 15-minute intervals so I called my husband and told him to come home. I also called my hypno-doula and asked if she could come to help as my husband was going to be another hour out.

Pressure waves seemed to stay at 15-minute intervals for the next two hours or so but they lasted over a minute, sometimes 2 minutes long. I just laid in bed, breathing through them and using my hypnosis and they really were comfortable to breathe through. They did start to get a little closer but my doula didn’t notice two pressure waves I went through since I was so quiet. She thought I was sleeping!

Around 11:30, she suggested that I get up and walk around to help progress things so I went and got a snack and then went outside to see my daughter after saying we would go to the hospital in 30 minutes. I had tested positive for Group B Strep and wanted to go with enough time to get the two doses in. I went outside and we all noticed that the pressure waves were getting closer together and lasting a long time. So, I decided to get going now. Walked inside and had one so intense it brought me to my knees on the floor and I felt some slight pressure so I felt an urgency to move fast.

The drive to the hospital went pretty well as I listened to the Easy First Stage hypnosis track (Hypnobabies main birthing day track) and worked through more pressure waves. I had a long walk to the birthing unit and worked through like 5 pressure waves really close together. Once we got to the room was when I seemed to lose hypnosis. Too many questions, too many people setting up the room quickly. Trying to get me hooked up for the penicillin. I had asked to not know what my cervical checks were so when the doctor checked and then left I assumed I wasn’t as far as I hoped. But only after a few minutes of being there, I felt the need to push.

My hypno-doula asked me if I did and I said yes, so she put on the Pushing Baby Out track (Hypnobabies hypnosis track just for pushing stage) on and I did hear it and I think it did help. While pushing, I couldn’t find a comfortable position especially when my son began to crown. I laid down on my side first and when I didn’t feel him progressing, I got on my hands and knees. That didn’t seem to help either so I climbed off the bed and stood up leaning over it and that was the right position as he came out! My husband was able to catch him even after all my changing positions 😆 and told me his gender while putting him on my chest.

It was so surreal that we had a little boy and that I didn’t have to use any drugs for his birth! The feelings were really intense and it was such a special moment and so different from my daughter’s birth.

He came at 1:25 pm, just about 45 minutes after we got to the hospital and it turned out I was at a 10 when she checked me after all! ☺️

It’s been two weeks and my recovery has been way better than with my daughter’s and I’m so thankful for Hypnobabies and my hypno-doula, Miranda Richardson, to help me achieve my goal of having a natural birth and shorter recovery time!
