Laura’s Hypnobabies Birth Center Waterbirth

“The car ride there was comfortable. I listened to Easy First Stage and turned my light switch to off during the waves. The entire ride I told my husband that I hope we weren’t headed in to early. We got to the birth center and I told them the waves were coming more frequently but very manageable.”

Hypnobabies #2 born on 12/10 (39 weeks, 6 days) at a birth center.

Around 8 am I started noticing sporadic birthing waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions. I was unsure of if they were going to lead to his birth or if they were more practice waves. I continued playing with my toddler and they did not subside. I put on my birthing day affirmations and felt more confident today might be his birthday. My mom came over around 10:00 am to watch my 2-year-old because I had a prenatal appointment. I packed my birthing bag and drove myself to my appointment (most likely not the best idea…). I had 2 very manageable waves on the way to the birth center. I arrived at 10:30 and cheerfully told them I thought it might be the baby’s birthday. They checked baby and said see you later.

I returned home (had 3 birthing waves on the way home) and met my toddler at the park. I played with my toddler until noon and told my husband to come home. I ate a quick lunch and went to our room to listen to Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing day track). My husband put our toddler down for a nap and came to time my waves at 1 pm. They were 3 and a half minutes apart lasting 50 seconds. We called my mom back and told the Birth Center we were headed that way.

The car ride there was comfortable. I listened to Easy First Stage and turned my light switch to off during the waves. The entire ride I told my husband that I hope we weren’t headed in to early. We got to the birth center and I told them the waves were coming more frequently but very manageable. I continued listening to Easy First Stage as I relaxed in the bath. The waves started getting more intense and I stayed in bath. As the intensity increase, I felt I needed a change. With my husband and midwife’s assistance I moved through just about every birthing position with my switch in center- bed, birth stool, ball, back to bath, hands and knees, squatting. I would switch to off during the wave.

My husband used the Peace cue (Hypnobabies tool for instant physical comfort) throughout my waves. Around 4:10 the waves turned to pushing waves while I was on the bed. I quickly returned to the bath, put on Pushing Baby Out (Hypnobabies track for pushing), and baby was born 2 pushes later. My water released on the final push out. I grabbed the baby out of the water, and he was perfect.

We returned to the bed and he immediately latched. The midwife checked him over and continued to let us bond as a family. I’ve been listening to After Your Baby comes daily and have had an amazing recovery period.
