Jacqueline’s Wonderful Hypnobabies Home Birth

“I put on Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track) and decided to lay down. I was able to remain lying in bed and comfortable and used my center switch (Hypnobabies technique for eyes-open hypnosis) to communicate with my midwife’s assistant when she showed up around 10:30.”

This was my 3rd baby, 2nd hypno-baby, 1st homebirth and 1st time not finding out the sex ahead of time.

I was past 41 weeks and had been having practice pressure waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions) on and off for at least 3 weeks.

I had a feeling yesterday that it would be the day, based on how I felt in relation to the last time I gave birth, (over 9 years ago!)

Around 4 pm I started feeling more pressure waves, but they were super manageable and I was able to go about my daily life. My 2 older kids got picked up by their dad around 5:30 and as soon as they left and I was able to relax as my pressure waves started to get more intense, and closer together but never too uncomfortable.

Once I was sure it was my birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor), I started listening to the Birthing Day Affirmations and continued to go about my day as usual. I felt really good until around 9 and then things started getting more intense. I let my husband know that we should call the midwife soon, since she lives about 2 hours away.

I put on Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track) and decided to lay down. I was able to remain lying in bed and comfortable and used my center switch (Hypnobabies technique for eyes-open hypnosis) to communicate with my midwife’s assistant when she showed up around 10:30. I hadn’t met her before, but was thrilled to find out that she is a 5x Hypnobabies mom and knew all the language.

I got into the birthing pool around 11 and continued to listen to Easy First Stage. A few times my earbuds popped out and I was able to get back into hypnosis easily, but they didn’t fit well since I was in the water and very sweaty and they were very distracting. At one point I moved to my couch to lay on my side and my water burst. I started to feel relief and went back into the pool.

When it was time to push around midnight, I had my husband put on Pushing Baby Out (Hypnobabies track just for pushing) and that’s where I struggled. I felt deep in hypnosis in between pushing waves, but I really struggled to push this time around and pushing was very uncomfortable. I was not pushing effectively so I got out of the pool and got on the birthing stool to let gravity help me. Between being in the pool and on the stool, I pushed for about an hour and a half (I didn’t push for nearly as long with my first 2.)

My midwife never told me when to push, but at some point, she let me know that his heartbeat indicated that it was time and I needed to concentrate and get him out. I was able to push him out shortly after and he was born at 1:32 and I couldn’t believe he was a boy! I thought for sure he was going to be a girl. We hadn’t picked a boy name yet, so we named him about 12 hours later after my husband’s and my great grandfathers.

If I have another baby, I will absolutely use Hypnobabies again, I can’t imagine giving birth without those wonderful hypnosis tools.
