Haley’s 3rd Baby and 1st Time Using Hypnobabies

“Hypnobabies really allowed me to focus, calm down, and to fully relax. Around 9pm my birthing time stalled so I went back to bed for the night. Around 10 pm they picked back up and thank goodness I had Hypnobabies because Hypnobabies allowed me to “wake up” for each intense pressure wave and move onto all fours and then immediately go right back to sleep (not sure if I was asleep or in a very deep state of hypnosis.)”

Joseph is my third baby and his guess date was July 6th and he made his appearance on the 10th. At 34.5 weeks we had an US that said he was almost 5lbs so there was a concern that he may be bigger. On July 9th I had the start of my bloody show at about 11 am and about 10 minutes later I had my first pressure wave! I called my husband and asked him to head home because things were starting for us and I wanted to focus. He came home and played with the kiddos and got things ready for us to head to the birthing center that is connected to our hospital. I spent the rest of the day alternating between the shower, the bathtub, the birthing ball, and sleeping all while my tracks played continuously.

Hypnobabies really allowed me to focus, calm down, and to fully relax. Around 9 pm my birthing time stalled so I went back to bed for the night. Around 10 pm they picked back up and thank goodness I had Hypnobabies because Hypnobabies allowed me to “wake up” for each intense pressure wave and move onto all fours and then immediately go right back to sleep (not sure if I was asleep or in a very deep state of hypnosis.)

Around 7 AM, my older two children woke up and my husband got up to get their day started. I got up and showered around 8:30 and decided to give my chiropractor a call to see if maybe I needed an adjustment to get things going. I saw her at 10 AM and holy smokes – if you’re on the fence about a chiro while pregnant I highly recommend it! My pressure waves were still continuing and still very inconsistent, buy very powerful. At 11 AM I had hit hour 24 of my birthing time and I was starting to feel discouraged. Luckily, my chiro used Hypnobabies and she was a great support system and helped me get on the right track mentally since I forgot my Hypnobabies tracks while there.

Around 12 we ate lunch and my pressure waves were suddenly much much more intense, so we called my sister to come over to hang out with our kids. I basically stayed in the shower with Hypnobabies playing from 1-145. Around 2 pm my husband looked at me and said “babe, I know you want to wait as long as possible and your pressure waves aren’t “hospital consistent”, but we are going to the hospital right now.” We were on our way at 210.

At 2:35 I was admitted and gave my wonderful nurse my birth plan and Hypnobabies language sheet. I let them check my pressure waves, monitor Joseph, and check me for dilation. At 2:45 I was a 5. They put a saline lock in and let me get up to go to the shower. (Can you tell where I liked to spend my birthing time 😂). I stayed in shower/birthing tub until I hit transformation. They checked me again right as my transformation started and I was still at a 5 around 3:10 pm. I was walking around my room leaning on my husband while he whispered hypnosis cues to remind me to relax.

Unfortunately, transformation was where I lost my focus and slipped out of hypnosis. My pressure waves were constant with no break between them. Around 3:30pm I collapsed onto all onto all fours and I said, “he’s coming!” They helped me get onto the bed at 3:35 and asked if they could check me to see how dilated I was and I said no. I got on to all fours and I began to push. My pushing was nothing like the purple pushing I had experienced with my other children. I listened to my body and let it tell me when to push. Some pushes were as short as 4 seconds.

My doctor was not there so my nurse called the resident and one other nurse. They were frantically trying to get into contact with my doctor. He ended up not making Joseph’s birth. The resident and other nurse stood back by the end of the bed and just watched while my nurse and husband rubbed my back and said, “you can do this.” Joseph was born at 3:45 pm with his amniotic sac still attached from his elbows to his head! I got 3 hours of uninterrupted skin to skin and then we weighed him. 8lbs (ultrasounds can be off!) And 19.5 inches.

This birth was hands down the most empowering thing I have ever done. It was healing and exactly what I needed. Despite it not being pain free once I hit transformation it was not unbearable. I even said “oh wow. That must be the stretching I’ve heard about. It isn’t as bad as I’ve heard.” My recovery has been a breeze! I haven’t experienced any depression like I did with my previous two.

If you’re on the fence about Hypnobabies just do it! I was educated, informed, and most importantly I was in charge of my birth. I didn’t have anyone tell me to push or to get out of the shower. It helped me handle 29 hours of my birthing time.

So, thank you Hypnobabies for giving me the tools to have the most amazing birth possible. I am still on a high from it.
