Fast, Natural Hypnobabies Birth of Baby Seamus

“A nurse quickly came in to check me at that point, and before I could decide if I wanted to know the number, she exclaimed, “Good job, momma! You’re at 9 cm!” Immediately after hearing that news, my body just took over. My Easy First Stage track was still playing aloud as I turned, grabbed the back of the bed, and my body started pushing.”

I had my beautiful Hypno-baby Seamus today…. we achieved our goal of a fast (although it started off kinda slow!), natural birth. Sorry, it’s kinda long!

I woke up at 3 am with a warm, intense pressure wave, and a trip to the bathroom revealed I had lost my mucus plug. Having had two “rehearsals” earlier in the week, I was a bit skeptical that today was the day, but my waves definitely felt different from before. I chose to listen to my Deepening track to try and get some rest. By 5 am, I decided it was time to have my husband Cory arrange for his parents to pick up our two year old daughter. My waves were already 3-4 minutes apart, each lasting about 45 seconds. I was sure now that today was the day!

Then of course, things took a bit of a turn. I noticed anytime I would sit or lie down, my pressure waves would slow down significantly. Once I started walking or had to use the restroom, they would pick right back up again. I felt a little disheartened, but I kept listening to my Birthing Day Affirmations and a couple of my favorite hypnosis tracks to catch up on rest. Cory and I drove out for some breakfast, and we walked around a couple of stores for a bit, completing last minute errands. Once we returned to our house at about 12:30, the waves started intensifying. It was taking more focus to get through them, and I benefited greatly from Cory using the Hypnobabies cue words and gently rubbing my shoulders…. when I started vocalizing, we knew it was hospital time!

We left at 1, and the hospital staff logged us in to get my cervix checked at 1:33. Once we got into the room, things got real. All I wanted to do was climb onto the back of the bed and hug the pillow on all fours. I had my husband request a birthing ball, not thinking about this only being the room I was getting examined in, since I hadn’t been admitted yet. The nurse said she would, but she later admitted she put it off, because they all thought we had more time! The power of the waves was unbelievable, and I tried to stay peaceful and quiet, like so many of the Hypnobabies births I’d seen…. but the reality was, I was a Hypno-momma with LUNGS and a powerful need to release that amazing energy.

THAT got a lot of attention. A nurse quickly came in to check me at that point, and before I could decide if I wanted to know the number, she exclaimed, “Good job, momma! You’re at 9 cm!” Immediately after hearing that news, my body just took over. My Easy First Stage track was still playing aloud as I turned, grabbed the back of the bed, and my body started pushing. The midwife still hadn’t arrived, and one of the nurses said, “Try not to push yet!” I responded with “I didn’t do it on purpose!”

Once my midwife arrived, his head was already visible. I kept shouting, “It’s stretching! Open, Open, Open!” Through each pushing wave. The louder I got, I realized the more relaxed I could keep my hands and body. I embraced the loudness. I’m not sure how long I pushed for, but he was born at 2:12pm, a mere 40 minutes after arriving at the hospital. I never did get to listen to the Pushing Baby Out track.

The part that really blows my mind, is that I had attempted a natural birth with my first. I didn’t know about Hypnobabies then, and my course of action was to “manage the pain”. I made it to 6 cm before it got to be too much, and I opted for the epidural. The whole experience took 24 hours, with me going through coached pushing for 2 1/2 hours. With Hypnobabies, I was calm and collected all the way up to full dilation, and my body did what it was made to do, without any intervention or assistance, in half the time… not to mention, I pushed for maybe 10 minutes!

I am so grateful for both experiences…. and I will always be a firm believer in the power of hypnosis. Now I can confidently tell my pregnant friends that this is definitely the way to go!
