Christa’s Hypnobabies Home Birth

“I asked if I could sit on the toilet (I don’t know why, but just had this gut feeling I needed to be on there). I had a few waves on the toilet before my midwife gently suggested I try to get back to my bed. I got there between my next two waves and come to find out, she was crowning!!”

I had my beautiful little girl 10/11. On the 10th I was experiencing a lot of pressure waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions), but they were 30 minutes apart, some would be an hour apart and at one point, they completely stopped for about 4 hours.

Around midnight, my partner and I started timing them and they were 5/6 minutes apart. Called our midwife, who said to give her a call when they were 3/4 minutes apart. Called our Hypno-Doula around 1 and she got there around 1:30.

Because I didn’t think I was in my birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor) as my waves were all over the place and stopping, I never thought to start my “Your Birthing Time Begins” (Hypnobabies reminder of all the tools for birth) and when they had started back up, they were at the 5/6 minutes apart and couldn’t stay in hypnosis. I listened to “Deepening Your Hypnosis” (Hypnobabies track for deepening the level of hypnosis) almost constantly and if I came out of hypnosis, I could use the finger drop technique (tool to enter hypnosis) to get back in.

Around 2 am my doula told my partner to call the midwife, and she showed up around 2:30. I had been in my bathtub when my doula got there and was sitting on the toilet when she said to call the midwife. We got my birth pool filled up and by the time my midwife got there, I was getting in it. I stayed on my knees in the pool, bent over the side 99% of the time, listening to my tracks and my partner giving counter pressure during waves, and my doula doing deepening cues as well. I stayed in there for about 2.5 hours and around 4:45 my water broke, and around 5 I wanted to be checked, but my midwife asked if we could wait just a little bit (come to find out I was in my transformation stage already!) I went to the bathroom while they finished getting my bed set up, and I remember this VIVIDLY, it was the first wave where I had to bear down!

I went into our bedroom, got on my hands and knees on our bed. I kept wanting to move around but be upright. My midwife suggested I try to lay down, so I did on my side with my leg around my partner, but that only lasted a bit before I was back on my knees again during my waves. I asked if I could sit on the toilet (I don’t know why, but just had this gut feeling I needed to be on there)

I had a few waves on the toilet before my midwife gently suggested I try to get back to my bed. I got there between my next two waves and come to find out, she was crowning!! I pushed when I felt the need to, I needed some direction for the last few (little miss decided to come out with her fist on her chin) and she was born at 5:58 am

Less than 6 hours after my birthing time began, we had our little girl in our arms!! I LOVED my home birth! It was everything I wanted. Even though I couldn’t stay in hypnosis, hypnosis helped me soooo much! I will definitely be using it again for future birth!
