Brittany’s Surprise Hypnobabies Home Birth

“I sat on my yoga ball and start rocking and get different kinds of comfortable movements going. It helped SO much, I got sleepy. So, my Hypnobabies Birthing Day tracks are playing and I napped for about 2 hours.”

I’m still in shock about how it all happened. Here is my 37-minute-long birth story….

When I woke up Monday morning (October 1st) I realized baby had dropped super far down. Belly dropped at least 4 inches overnight. I asked Kam and he was like “WHOA! Yea she dropped!”

We got our day started. We dropped Kalina off at school and I realized it was way hard to walk. Got in the car and said, “Ok, we have to get Kalina and Kiyomi’s room together because Kiyomi is coming soon”. Hubby agreed. See, Kalina was sick Thursday and Friday before so nothing was done. Not. One. Thing.

Anyway, we get home and start cleaning.

Pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) start coming strong enough I stop whatever I’m doing at the moment to breathe and stretch. I figure “Ok, she’ll be here in a couple of days maybe”. I knew I hadn’t dilated or anything. Just knew she dropped.

Cleaning continues until noonish. Hubby and I decided I need to go to mom-in-loves to see my birthing space for visualizing and Hypnobabies prep. Mom-in-loves is like “okay so I have to move this table out and the tub can go here”, and other last-minute to-do’s… I was like “Yeah this is good I needed to see it”, I wanted to start seeing my birth in my head and meditate on it.

Pressure waves start again. It’s even harder to walk. I sat on my yoga ball and start rocking and get different kinds of comfortable movements going. It helped SO much, I got sleepy. So, my Hypnobabies Birthing Day tracks are playing and I nap for about 2 hours. Kam has gone running errands and to pick up Kalina.

They come to MIL’s and Kalina comes into our birthing space to kiss me and ask when her sister will be here … I don’t have an answer other than “soon baby girl”.

We decide we want to eat some Thai food. Seafood Tom Yum soup for me and pineapple curry for Kam, chicken wings for Kalina… Kam goes back out to get dog food and our food.

Pressure waves are stronger but I’m on my Hypnobabies hypnosis Zen so I’m good. Been going back and forth to the toilet all day.  No big deal, right?

7 pm rolls around and we’re eating.  Watching “Whose Line is it Anyway?” After 2 episodes, yoga ball rocking the whole time, then I go to the bathroom and I go in pregnant … and come out not…

So, I’m sitting on the toilet thinking the Tom Yum Seafood soup has given me bubble guts! I had to get that out!! But I also am thinking about calling my midwife. I don’t but I tell Kam he should really have the cameras ready to go. So, he goes home to get the batteries. We only live three blocks away. Then…

Out of nowhere, I burst into a sweat, so it had to be the seafood! I think I’m in my hypnotic Zen mode for the wrong reason! Then after trying to get that out for a while, I decide to get up. I wipe. Mucus plug. It’s 9:45 pm…

I call my midwife still super hypno-Zen “Hey beautiful, how are you?”

“I’m good. How are you?”

“Well, my mucus plug has come out and I’ll call when my water breaks”.

“Okay. Should I come now?”

“Nah we have some time”

“Keep me posted”…

9:47 pm … water breaks. Text my midwife. She calls back at 10:04 pm, should have called her.

“I was just going to call you to come on”

“Oh okay. How’s everything going?” And asks about fluids and whatnot…

“Okay I’m on my way”

Mind you, there is still no sense of urgency because I’m so freaking calm and in hypnosis.

10:10 pm… I NEED TO GET OFF THE TOILET AND INTO THE SHOWER. Kam comes to help but as I am stepping into the tub…

I feel Kiyomi’s head. I’ve been pushing through pressure waves…not trying to poo!!!

I have 1 foot on the tub, 1 hand in my husband’s, other on Kiyomi’s head and at this point, there’s no turning back…

I push. I push again.

One last push and Kiyomi was born at 10:22 pm, caught in my hands halfway into the shower…
