I did it!!!!

I went to bed last night with pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) coming every 4-5 minutes but didn’t think too much of it because it’s happened about 7x before. I woke up at 2 am to use the restroom. When I got back in bed, I had a wave & felt a gush. I again didn’t think too much of it because I’ve had so much discharge this past week. Went back to the bathroom to change my underwear & felt like I had to pee again. & I did (not really, it was my water). Put new underwear on & got back to bed & they were wet by the time I got to the bed. At this point, I felt like I knew this was my water. Then I had a back spasm & it was so uncomfortable. I called my husband in there to help with counter pressure to get me through it.

At this point, I put a pad on & got back in bed but it was soaked through by the time I got to the bed. I called my midwife to let her know what was going on. This was probably around 2:15. While talking to my midwife, I had 4 waves but was able to talk through them just fine. She suggested trying to get some more rest.

My husband put on our second layer of sheets since I was planning a home birth. By the time he was done with that, my waves were already feeling much more intense. I knew I needed to try to get into my hypnosis & fast. My first was born 2 hours after having my water manually broken so I knew there was a chance it could happen quickly again.

I played my Easy First Stage track (Hypnobabies’ main birthing time hypnosis track) while attempting to lay down. As soon as I laid down though, my waves instantly became much more intense. I decided to go ahead & call my midwife, photographer & doula. Everyone was on their way. This was probably around 2:30 am. I tried to get into hypnosis on my birthing ball but things were intensifying quickly. I decided to jump into the shower. I had my hypnosis playing aloud as I was in the shower & with each wave, I was saying “Peace” (Hypnobabies hypnosis cue for instant physical comfort). After about 15 minutes or so, I started having to squat through each wave & having counter pressure applied by my husband. My photographer arrived first then my doula soon afterward. Soon after my doula arrived, I decided to get out & get on the toilet. I rode maybe 4-5 waves on the toilet & was starting to throw up & the pressure was so intense. I knew I was in transformation (Hypnobabies word for transition).

I think somewhere around 3:40 am, I started feeling very pushy. My midwife had not arrived yet. My doula suggested we transfer to the bed while my husband called my midwife & had her on the speaker. As soon as I got to the bed, I reached down & felt my son’s head. I had my husband switch to Pushing Baby Out track (Hypnobabies special hypnosis track just for comfortable pushing).

At this point, my waves were pretty much right on top of each other & we didn’t think my midwife would make it but she did. She said I could transfer to the birthing tub if I wanted. I waited for the wave to end then transferred just in time for another wave to happen. Once I got in the tub, I was very much roaring through my waves or so it felt like but everyone later told me I was very calm & in control. After maybe 5 minutes of his head crowning but not descending further, my midwife told me we needed to transfer back to the bed. I made it just in time before another wave came. That wave got his head 1/3 out but then it got sucked back in once it was over. My midwife had me lean on the bed super far & push my butt way back with my legs as far as I could handle & with the next wave, his head popped out & the rest of my water exploded all over my midwife. We waited one more wave & the rest of his body slid right out.

From the time my water broke to the time I was holding my son was 2 hours 4 minutes. My older son slept through the entire thing!

Truett Grant was born exactly on his guess date! 7lbs 13oz, 20.5 in long at 4:04am on St. Patrick’s Day 🍀
