Alexandra’s Incredible Hypnobabies Hospital Induction

“I kept myself “OFF” (Hypnobabies technique for being deeply in hypnosis) most of this time and was really enjoying the warm water and focusing deep within myself. This was my favorite part of the birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor), I felt extremely in control and relaxed and my mind was “asleep”, my pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) really did feel like a blood pressure cuff tightening around my baby. It was incredibly beautiful sensations.”

A round of Pitocin and my water breaking began my induction. I did a few position changes until my pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contraction) started getting stronger and more regular and then I got into the tub. At this point, I was roughly 5 cm dilated but did not know until after (my doctors were informing my husband for me to know later but I requested to not know during my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor)).

While I was enjoying my Hypnobabies soundtrack and pressure waves in the tub I was very very deep in hypnosis, to the point I felt I was almost asleep. I kept myself “OFF” (Hypnobabies technique for being deeply in hypnosis) most of this time and was really enjoying the warm water and focusing deep within myself. This was my favorite part of the birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor), I felt extremely in control and relaxed and my mind was “asleep”, my pressure waves really did feel like a blood pressure cuff tightening around my baby. It was incredibly beautiful sensations.

When the water got cold, I got out and practiced a few more positions for another 3 hours or so at this time (on the yoga ball I was 7 cm) listening to “Easy First Stage” (Hypnobabies main birthing day hypnosis track) and “Deepening” (Hypnobabies hypnosis track to deepen hypnosis) on rotation. As my pressure waves became stronger, I found it was easier to focus on my tracks by listening with my noise canceling headphones on.

A cervical check at this point revealed that my son was facing sideways and had gotten stuck- and would require me to be laying on my side or on my hands and knees to get him into the proper position. I was also 7.5 centimeters, and I tried following the directions of the doctor and listened to “Come Out Baby” (Hypnobabies track to encourage baby to be born) but was uncomfortable with the pressure waves while I was laying in the position I needed to be laying in. So I got myself on hands and knees, listening to my “Easy First Stage” track.

The pressure waves were very powerful and close together (due to the Pitocin) and I was “AHHHHHH”ing through them while my husband pressed firmly on my lower back.  After 2 hours on hands and knees, at 8.5 cm -around the 16-hour mark, I had gotten very tired. My arms were having a hard time supporting me and I couldn’t hold myself up anymore. I knew it would be best for me and my baby if I could lay in the position I needed to be for him to be able to come down and out on his own. So, I decided to get an epidural so I could lay on my side and have the energy to push.

After the epidural I put my headphones on the Hypnobabies relaxation background music track and took a nap. 2 hours later my doctor came in and checked me- she barely put her fingertip in and said she could feel him and he was coming now and she said “DONT SNEEZE!” And ran out to get scrubbed and get nurses – and I started feeling really pushy and told them someone needed to come catch the baby because I was about to push.

The doctors and nurses all came in and got scrubbed up, I put my hands around my thighs and asked her to instruct me when to push, she guided me and with 2 pushes he was out- and I did not tear.

Our beautiful baby was so very calm and relaxed we didn’t hear him fuss for the first 6 hours after birth, our nurses told us he was still in hypnosis.

I am so incredibly happy with our birthing story, even though we had changes of plans I was able to use my self-hypnosis all throughout my birthing time and really love and appreciate all of it. I was always in control and I really listened to what my body and my baby needed and it was a very powerful and beautiful experience.
