As a massage therapist and birth doula I have worked with expectant mothers throughout their pregnancy and postpartum, and have helped them with their prenatal discomforts and postpartum healing. I am also a certified practitioner/teacher with advanced training in preconception wellness, fertility enhancement, and pregnancy of the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®. I enjoy supporting couples towards having positive experiences and outcomes during the birthing time. Many childbirth class student couples in the Triangle area have experienced my hands-on “Massage for the Expecting Couple” workshops where they learned how to use simple massage techniques to effectively relieve tension and discomfort while strengthening their connection to each other and their baby. I feel that therapeutic touch is so important during pregnancy to help prepare for birth that I offer customized “Teaching 2Somes” sessions to expecting couples at my Cary office.
The birthing time with each of my 2 sons was dramatically different. The first one was full of fear and anxiety and the outcome was not peaceful for me or my baby. The birth of my second son was very unlike that of my first and I attribute that to having diligently prepared myself for my birthing time. During my second pregnancy I learned tools that I could use to help me remain focused, relaxed, and connected to my body. Although not formally "medical hypnosis", these tools, and my consistent practice with them, helped me have an experience that was way more positive and empowering. I did however learn medical hypnosis to help me be more comfortable receiving dental work and can vouch for how powerful this approach has been for me for the past 10 years. Among the moms I have supported as their birth doula, I witnessed several who have employed medical hypnosis at their birthing time. I was so moved by their experience that I decided to learn more about medical hypnosis for birth and train as a Hypnobabies Hypno-Doula.
