Sara’s Exciting Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

Sara’s Exciting Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“I am so thankful for this program, not only for making my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) so wonderful, but for making my pregnancy so comfortable. I was so confident in my baby and body. I slept GREAT at night after listening to my tracks (Hypnobabies hypnosis) before bed, and I loved listening to my pregnancy affirmations every day.”

So, I am not a writer, but I am going to try to write out my birth story here. I loved reading birth stories when I was pregnant so hopefully this helps someone out like other birth stories did for me. Hope it turns out okay!!

To start, before I even got pregnant I knew I was going to use Hypnobabies for my birthing time. I got the program when I was 19 weeks pregnant and started at week 20. I stretched the classes out and my husband and I spent one night a week where we would take turns reading from the course book and then a few nights a week I would have him read the partner scripts (Hypnobabies hypnosis scripts) to me. I loved my whole pregnancy even more just from taking the self-study class. So, my sweet baby was born on December 15, 5 days before my guess date (due date)! It started at about 3:45 am on the 15th when I woke up to go to the bathroom. After I laid back down I noticed that I was having some pressure waves (contractions). They weren’t close together or anything different than what I had been having before but for some reason my intuition told me that these were something special. I kinda dozed in bed and hung out for a while until about 4:40 when I decided to time them just to see if there was anything regular about them. Well turns out they were about 45-55 seconds long and about 6-8 minutes apart. I was pretty excited!

I timed them for about 30 minutes before I decided that something was happening, so I turned on my Your Birthing Time Begins track (Hypnobabies reminder of all tools and techniques for birthing) and Birthing Day Affirmations (Hypnobabies tracks) just to get things started. I had all of my Hypnobabies hypnosis tracks on my phone, so I put it on speaker and just played while lying in bed (and to gently wake up my husband). He woke up and we just laid in bed and talked about what the day would bring. We decided to get out of bed so that I could sit on my birthing ball and my husband, James, could make breakfast. For some reason the omelet he made that morning was even more delicious than normal!

At this point I knew that things were going to happen and that today would be my sweet baby’s birth day, so I texted my father in law to come and stay with our 3-year-old and I texted my sister in law to tell her that things were progressing. She was going to meet us at the hospital so that she could take pictures for us. While waiting for my father in law to show up I showered and put on some make-up to keep myself busy. Once my father in law got there I decided it was time to head to the hospital since it was a 25-30 minute drive and I really wanted to get settled at the hospital so I could be comfortable there.

Before we left for the hospital I texted my mom to tell her I was on the way to the hospital, she was planning on being there for the birth but since she lives in Colorado and we are in Texas she hadn’t planned on being there for another couple days, but this sweet baby chose their birth date a little earlier than anticipated ;). My mom booked the first flight she could, and it was a race to see if she could make it in time (spoiler alert, she didn’t make it, but she got there about 45 minutes after, so close!!). After contacting my mom, I laid in my bed and listened to the Deepening Your Hypnosis track (Hypnobabies hypnosis track to deepen the level of hypnosis) to get myself in a good space before the car ride. Once I put myself in center (a Hypnobabies hypnosis cue) we were on our way! The drive to the hospital was a bit uncomfortable for me, I didn’t like having to sit still for so long, so I was very excited once we made it to the hospital.

The second I got out of the car at the hospital my waves were much more manageable and easy, and I was back to being comfortable. I kept one earbud in my ear playing my hypno-tracks while I was being checked in and every time I had a pressure wave I would just put my head down and the nurses would stop talking to me while I focused on my hypnosis. The nurses were fantastic!! They checked me, and I was 5 cm and they said that they would go ahead and admit me. I said “Sweet, let’s have a baby!”. The nurses were so shocked at how calm and happy I was the whole time. Walking to the natural birthing suite in my hospital I found out the midwife who would be catching my baby. She was the new midwife in the practice whom I hadn’t met yet! I was so calm and confident though that I was still excited even though I hadn’t met her. I changed into my nightgown that I brought, and I went back and forth between sitting on the birthing ball, walking around the room, and sitting in the bed. I was also drinking lots of water, so I had to pee a lot!

I loved each wave I got, and I felt so powerful the whole time. Every wave I had I would just put my head down and listen to Kerry (the voice on Hypnobabies recordings) in my ear then once it was over I’d pop my head back up and continue whatever conversation we were having. My sister in law showed up soon after we got to the birthing suite and she started taking pictures for me. I love that I have pictures of this birth! My husband was amazing during my whole birthing time, he would do the Relax and Peace cue (Hypnobabies hypnosis cues) for me whenever he could tell I needed it. I loved when he would put his hand on my forehead and say Relax or Peace. He was so great! In between waves I even had him massage my back with a rolling pin. That felt so awesome!

I had been in the hospital for about 3 hours when they checked me again and I was 6cm, but I wasn’t disappointed at all. I know some women feel discouraged when they get checked but I knew that things would move fast once I got a little closer to the end and I trusted my body to do the work in its own time (Hypnobabies teaches that too). Around 4pm I decided to get in the bath tub. The nurse filled it up for me and added some lavender essential oil to the tub (which smelled amazing) and I got in and relaxed. James suggested after being in there for 10 minutes that I should switch positions to keep things moving and that’s when things really kicked into gear. I got out of the tub at 4:35 and was checked and I was 7cm and very thin. My midwife came in and said that she could break my water if I wanted, since it was bulging, or we could just keep going and wait for my mom to get there. I could tell I was in transformation (transition) and I was shaking and decided to just have her break my water and get things moving.

At 4:45 she broke my water and I instantly went to an 8.5. At 5pm I could feel my body start to push. I had James put the Pushing Your Baby Out track on. At this point I had a really challenging time focusing on the track. The nurses kept telling me to push and were talking loudly and over each other and I pulled myself together enough to tell them to be quiet and I will push when I felt the urge. My husband also told them to be quiet and leave me alone. Once they were quiet I was able to focus, they were very respectful of my wishes I just had to speak up about them. (Hypnobabies teaches that too!) After my first pushing pressure wave (which felt ah-mazing) the nurses and midwife were telling me that I was so close and that I was doing so great. I told them all to stop lying to me to make me feel better, but they made me reach down and I could feel the baby’s head!! I was shocked that things were moving so quickly and then I felt bad for being annoyed with them because I thought they were lying lol! My husband moved so that he could help catch the baby since this baby was motivated to meet us! One quick push and the baby’s head was out then another quick push and the baby was out! It was crazy how fast it happened, and I was honestly in shock since with my son I pushed for an hour and it was super slow going. James grabbed the baby and put the baby directly on my chest. This moment was so special to not only me but for James as well. He was the one who looked at the pregnancy test when I tested to see if I was pregnant, so it was only fitting that he got to “receive” the baby and tell me that it was a Girl!! I was so excited because I really thought she was a girl!

Juliette Judith was born into her daddy’s arms at 5:24pm and was 8lbs 11oz and 20in long. She is perfect in every way and my whole birthing time was perfect. The last hour was very intense but without Hypnobabies I would not have been able to do it. I am so thankful for this program, not only for making my birthing time so wonderful, but for making my pregnancy so comfortable. I was so confident in my baby and body. I slept GREAT at night after listening to my tracks before bed, and I loved listening to my pregnancy affirmations every day. This course really forces you to take time for yourself which can be a challenge to do sometimes but it is worth it. I can’t wait to use this course again when I get pregnant again. I look forward to my next birthing time!

Thank you for reading my birth story and I really hope it helps someone feel confident that Hypnobabies works in just the way you need it to.
