“With that focus, I was able to touch her head during crowning, birth my baby, pull her up on to my chest and kiss her face. I actually got to feel a wet, mewing baby on my belly – just after birth – and fall in love with that feeling forever. In her first moments, my baby felt nothing but my body and my love.”

I gave birth to my second child and first Hypnobabies birth on August 14th.

We had a planned homebirth and I managed to find the most amazing midwife. I live in Sweden where the homebirth rate is 0.14% and I live in a small town. My midwife has over 30 years of experience and the most incredible natural birth philosophy. Due to having an emergency caesarean under GA with my firstborn, I was even luckier to find her. This was her first Hypnobabies birth.

All-day Tuesday I experienced practice waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions). They were more intense than the Braxton-Hicks but very manageable and gave me a good opportunity to practice my Hypnobabies techniques. I didn’t think I was in my early birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) so I continued with my day as normal and went to sleep.

At 5 am I woke up with my waters breaking in bed and knew it was my birthing day. From there I spent my time in active birthing time sitting on the toilet with my legs either elevated and supported in a squat or hugging the toilet. I started listening with headphones but ended up listening to my tracks out loud the remainder of my birthing time. I really enjoyed that because I found it easier to focus but also be able to respond to what was going on around me. I had no concept of time and I only felt comfortable pressure during my birthing waves. Around 5 hours into my birthing time my midwife informed my husband that they needed to move me into the birthing pool as I was going through transformation (Hypnobabies word for transition) and would birth within the hour.

I got into the birth pool and felt a lot of comfort I didn’t know I needed from the hot water. At this point in time, I could feel a change. My waves became more intense but also with longer rests between them. After feeling like I had done a lot of intense pressure waves I asked how many more I would have to do and my husband reminded me to focus on one birthing wave at a time. This allowed me to refocus and center myself and I asked to read a printout I had made from Lesson 6’s online material – Why not think ‘What If’ in powerful ways 💖

With that focus, I was able to touch her head during crowning, birth my baby, pull her up on to my chest and kiss her face. I actually got to feel a wet, mewing baby on my belly – just after birth – and fall in love with that feeling forever. In her first moments, my baby felt nothing but my body and my love.

With the skills I learned from Hypnobabies I was able to heal my first birth and emerge victorious. Thanks to the support of my husband, my midwife and our choice to homebirth I was able to reclaim my biological right.
