Positive, Easy Induction without Epidural

“I asked them to turn off the Pitocin and see if my body would take over, and they did. In the span of an hour, I went from 5cm to 8 cm, and got up on the bed on all fours as I was feeling the need to bear down.” My baby was finally born last week with a positive, easy induction without an epidural! I was approaching 42 weeks gestation and was doing everything I could to self-induce, including the Come Out Baby track (Hypnobabies track to encourage baby to be born) daily.

Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis really does help you enjoy a much easier and more comfortable birthing! Use code hypno1528 for 10% off our Hypnobabies Home Study Courses.

I was extremely upset and nervous about the possible use of Pitocin, because I’m committed to birthing without an epidural, and I’ve heard over and over that Pitocin waves are “unmanageable” without pain medications.

I went to the Hypnobabies website and read every single induction birth story, which really helped give me confidence that my tools were strong enough to get me through. In the hospital the night before, my husband read me the Change of Plans script (Hypnobabies script to help with any type of change of birthing plans), which was so nice and relaxing.

In the morning the doctor came to break my water and I used the finger-drop to be comfortable during that invasive moment. I requested they start low and slow with the Pitocin, and the doctor and nurse were understanding and on board with my goal to use Hypnobabies and no epidural. My nurse had never heard of Hypnobabies but was intrigued. I listened to Birthing Day Affirmations as the Pitocin kicked in, and my waves were relatively mild and coming every 3 minutes by around 11am. They continued increasing Pitocin by 2 units every 30 minutes.Pregnant person with birth ball smiling during Positive, Easy Induction without Epidural

After 30 mins I felt my baby suddenly drop lower onto my cervix and immediately the waves were much more intense. I knew it was time to settle deep into hypnosis and have this baby. I turned on the Easier First Stage track (Hypnobabies main birthing time track) on my earbuds and found a position where I could completely turn off between waves (sitting on a chair with my head resting on my husband’s stomach). He gave me the Relax cue (Hypnobabies cue to deepen the level of hypnosis) over and over during each wave, and that was crucial for me. I had to really focus on not tensing up, and I did vocalize with low sounds to get through each wave.

I asked them to turn off the Pitocin and see if my body would take over, and they did. In the span of an hour, I went from 5cm to 8 cm, and got up on the bed on all fours as I was feeling the need to bear down. Within a few more waves I was complete and started to experience the fetal ejection reflex where my body started pushing without my effort. I had the Pushing Baby Out track (Hypnobabies track just for pushing) playing in my ear bud (one ear was free to listen to any instructions from the doctor). I pushed for 3 strong waves (with my husband repeating the Relax cue) and my sweet baby girl was here!New family in hospital just after Positive, Easy Induction without Epidural

Overall, the birth only took 6 hours from the start of my waves, which is incredible because my first birth (without Hypnobabies) was 28 grueling hours! Afterward, the doctor and nurses all expressed amazement at how well I managed the waves. One nurse even said she didn’t realize I was unmedicated and thought I had an epidural until she saw me flip over. I felt proud!

I had a wonderful, positive and easy birth experience despite my apprehension about Pitocin and induction, and I owe it completely to Hypnobabies. I’m so grateful.
