My birthing time started 3/20/17. I had lost my mucus plug, then my water started to slowly break. I began feeling strong pressure waves shortly afterwards. I grabbed my headphones and started listening to my Birthing Day Affirmations & Birthing Day tracks.
This was it, but I was not fully prepared as I was 2 weeks early. In between waves my husband installed the car seat and I packed for the hospital. I was also tracking the time between waves on an app I had installed. It kept telling me to get ready to go to the hospital. Well I ignored it because I had already been in touch with our doula & doctor and both said labor at home for as long as possible. This was my 2nd birth, my 1st was 37 hours long so I felt like there was time. Waves where now 2 minutes apart and picking up with intensity. I felt very calm listening to Birthing Day tracks but because they came so fast and so close together I was having trouble getting into a hypnotic state.
Once we arrived to the hospital I was distracted even further by questions & nurses and the fact that I was 10 cm (complete) and everyone was rushing around me as if the baby was about to make its arrival any second.
I was wheeled into birthing room where I continued listening but at some point I found myself without headphones in, I’m not sure what happened but even without the tracks I was able to stay calm during my waves for the next 2 hours, the nurse said it was the most calm birth she had attended. She said typically she’s use to hearing more cussing. I ended up needing direction for pushing and remembered to tell my husband to play pushing baby out track out loud but I was unable to focus on the track. I repeated an affirmation in my mind, “the stronger the pressure wave the closer I am to meeting my baby”. Porter was born after only a 6 hour birthing time and he was perfect in every way. I attribute Hypnobabies and all the preparation home-play the past few months for my quick unmediated birth. It truly prepared me mentally for the birthing I desired.
