We welcomed our sweet baby boy on Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at approximately 5:50 am. We actually don’t know the exact time because I birthed our son unexpectedly on our bathroom floor! Our “plan” had been to have a hospital birth, attended by our midwives, but turns out our baby had other plans!
I woke up at about 4:30 am, as usual, to go to the bathroom and was feeling absolutely normal. I got back into bed, but just lay there awake for about 20 minutes because I couldn’t get back to sleep. At about 4:50 am I noticed that faint birthing waves had begun, and I started feeling a little queasy. I woke my husband to tell him that today might be the day. I remember feeling very calm, preparing my Hypnobabies hypnosis tracks and telling my husband what I needed him to do.
Next thing I knew the birthing waves were coming VERY fast, and very close together. I asked my husband to time them so that we could call the midwives with the information, and they were already coming a minute and a half apart, for almost a minute long! What?!
We frantically called family and friends in the area to come stay with our sleeping 20 month old daughter, but things just progressed way too quickly, and we had to call the paramedics.
At that time I knew the baby was coming. I suddenly became very calm and decided I needed to just trust my body. I birthed my baby into my arms, and he was absolutely perfect! 7lbs, 5oz of wonderful!
It’s still all sort of sinking in for us. It is just hard to believe that from the first inkling of a birthing wave, to when he arrived, was exactly one hour! Although I didn’t have a lot of time to listen to my birthing time tracks, I certainly credit my Hypnobabies studies for helping me prepare, and remain calm and in control.
