Nichole’s Hypnobabies Home Birth Visualization Came True

“When the baby’s head came out, I felt the water break, which my midwife confirmed later. I had to bear down 3 times and she was out! We did not know her sex so we checked and were very excited to meet our newest little girl.”

My 3rd baby was born at home on May 1st using Hypnobabies. She is my 2nd VBAC baby but first born at home.

A little background information–My first baby was born almost 8 years ago. I wanted to have him naturally and in the hospital. I went naturally but the hospital pushed some interventions and the night ended with an emergency c section, which I had to be put to sleep for.

Fast forward to my 2nd baby. Again, I knew I wanted a natural birth and I wanted a VBAC. I was unable to find a doctor that would support my desire for a VBAC so I researched alternative birthing options and discovered midwives and birth centers. I also discovered Hypnobabies. My daughter was born after a 3-day birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor), consistent waves throughout the 3 days, in the birth center. It was a magical experience and Hypnobabies definitely helped me remain calm and in control during those 3 days. My waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) felt powerful and strong and there was a feeling of relief when it came time to push her out, which I waited until my body naturally pushed.

So, when I found out I was pregnant with my 3rd baby, I knew from the beginning I would definitely use my Hypnobabies home course again (I have the previous edition, which still works magically). Also, my first baby was born at 40 plus 2 and my 2nd was born at 40 plus 5, so I fully expected this little one to come after 40 weeks, which she did at 40 plus 6. On a side note, I bought the Come Out Baby track (Hypnobabies hypnosis track to encourage baby to be born) on 40 plus 3. Although it took me a few days to have my birthing time, the track was one of my favorites and it really helped me to release some fears and get myself into a really positive headspace.

Because my past 2 births started during the middle of the night, I visualized this birth beginning during the night. My waves started at 12:02 AM on May 1st about 30 minutes after falling asleep. When I woke up, I felt excited and happy and I knew I would meet my baby soon. I immediately listened to my Birthing Day Affirmations. At that point, my waves were every 9 to 10 minutes apart lasting 1 minute. After affirmations, I listened to Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing day track) on repeat, which helped me get into hypnosis.

I remained in the center (Hypnobabies tool for being in hypnosis with eyes open), which I had previously visualized that I would. I let my husband know the baby would be coming soon. He asked if I needed any help but I just wanted to stay in my zone. I took a relaxing bath and then I sat in my rocking chair and I rocked. I did that for a bit and then I started to doze off! For the next few hours, I slept in between waves, which continued to consistently come every 7 minutes.

When I had a wave, it would wake me up, and I immediately used my Peace cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort), which provided immediate relief. I also switched from my rocking chair to other chairs around the house and my birth ball. I wanted to make it to 5 AM before needing to call anyone, which is what happened. Around 5, I let my midwives know what all was going on. My husband called my mom and our photographer. I asked everyone to hold off a bit longer because I was not ready for them yet.

My husband helped a lot with my 2nd birth so this was a bit different but my tracks were really helping me stay in my zone and I just wanted to sit and rock and focus. Around 6 AM, my 5 and 7-year old’s woke up and my husband let them know they would be meeting the baby soon. They were very excited. Around 7 AM, I suddenly felt like I wanted to cry, which was unexpected. But then I remembered I had that feeling with my daughter when I was in transformation (Hypnobabies word for transition).

Once I remembered that the excited feeling resumed and I told my husband to call everyone so they could come and to fill my birth tub. At this point, I went deeply within myself and sort of lost track of everything going on around me. My midwives arrived soon after. Based on how quickly my waves were coming, my midwife asked if I wanted to get in my birth pool and stated it was probably time. I agreed and got in. They played my Pushing Baby Out track (Hypnobabies special track just for pushing), which I was so deeply inward focused, I don’t remember hearing it at all (that also happened with my first Hypnobabies birth). Once in the water, the natural urge to push started and I just followed my body’s lead. When the baby’s head came out, I felt the water break, which my midwife confirmed later. I had to bear down 3 times and she was out! We did not know her sex so we checked and were very excited to meet our newest little girl. My older two were present and did beautifully. My whole birthing time from start to finish was 9 hours, which was basically exactly what I had visualized!

I would absolutely use Hypnobabies again as it helped me remain calm and comfortable throughout my birthing time.
