Meagan’s Calm, Relaxed Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“My nurse came in and asked if she could check my progress. She told me I was at a 9! She went to get the doctor. The doctor told me she’d never seen a woman progressed to a 9 be so calm and relaxed. I laughed and said I was pretty calm. I felt so relaxed in between my pressure waves it was unbelievable!”

Our second Hypnobabies baby was born on January 8,2023. I woke up around 2 am to use the bathroom and was having a hard time going back to sleep. It was my guess date (Hypnobabies term for due date) on-the-dot, so I decided to listen to the “Come out Baby” (Hypnobabies track to encourage birthing time to begin) track to relax. Either the subconscious mind is *that* powerful, or it’s the world’s biggest coincidence, but my pressure waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions) began shortly after at 5 am. I woke my husband to let him know, then went to take a shower.

Newborn baby in pink onsie after calm, relaxed birth.I started listening to the Birthing Day Affirmations as well. From the start, these waves were much more powerful and frequent than the experience with my first daughter, but they were manageable when using my light switch (Hypnobabies hypnosis tool) and deep breathing techniques.

By 7 am, pressure waves were 3 mins apart, and it was time to head to the hospital. I turned on my birthing day tracks using headphones in the car, and kept my eyes closed during the drive to the hospital. Once at the hospital, I remained very calm and told the nurse admitting me that I was practicing Hypnobabies and any time my eyes were closed to please not speak to me until I opened them again. I had a great experience at this hospital last time, and I know how respectful and supportive they are of mothers and their choices.

I was told I was at a 5, and we walked to my room. I set up the room with faux flickering candles, a framed ultrasound picture of my baby, and sprayed a comforting all-natural scent to set the right tone. I changed into my own soft and warm birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor) gown. Pressure waves were intense, and discomfort was there, but I continued to use my light switch and deep breathing (4 counts in through my nose,8 counts out through my mouth during pressure waves).

At first, I preferred being in the bathroom and walking around my room. My husband was with me through all of this, but I really prefer to be left to my own devices during birthing time and fully focused on the experience. Before long, I started to feel sleepy, and so settled in on the bed to listen to my hypnosis tracks with headphones and a satin sleep mask on. I also brought a soft, warm blanket from home.

This is where I really have to thank Kerry Tuschhoff and am still amazed at how effective this program is. I fell into what felt like a deep state of hypnosis/sleep listening to her Easier First Stage track (Hypnobabies main birthing time track). The intensity of the pressure waves would occasionally make me need to put my light switch in the center, as I felt the need to move. The amazing thing is I only felt this happen maybe 5 or 6 times, the other times I must have been able to stay in hypnosis. I listened to the track 3 times.

My nurse came in and asked if she could check my progress. She told me I was at a 9! She went to get the doctor. The doctor told me she’d never seen a woman progressed to a 9 be so calm. I laughed and said I was pretty calm. I felt so relaxed in between my pressure waves it was unbelievable! The doctor asked if I’d like my waters released. I agreed. She did, and about 10 minutes later I knew it was time! The doctor and nurses were so respectful and supportive! The pushing was almost completely led by me. I listened to the final birthing day track while pushing, and in 5 pushes, our little beauty was born! Less than 8 hours from start to finish of birthing time.

If you have doubts, keep up the good work. You are giving yourself the absolute best preparation and tools to enable you to give yourself and your baby a completely natural birthing experience. My daughter is happy, calm and took to nursing like a duck to water. My recovery has been awesome, and the whole experience is a beautiful memory I will cherish.
