McKenzie’s One Hour Long Hypnobabies Home Birth

“I was listening to my tracks and using my Peace cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort). It had only been about 15 min since my waters broke and I was already in transformation (Hypnobabies word for transition).”

When I found out I was pregnant with my second baby it was four days after moving to a new city for my husband’s new job. My first baby was an amazing Hypnobabies birth with my incredible midwife and my awesome doula Lety Knight. Though I was now living four hours away from them, I knew that I needed the same birth team for this baby (and absolutely needed to use Hypnobabies) so for the duration of my pregnancy I traveled the 4 hours monthly to appointments and was blessed to have my parents open their home to allow me to birth there and be with my beloved birth team.

As my birthing day got closer I used my joyful affirmations track a lot to stay in a positive mindset since I was now past my estimated birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) and staying at my parents’ home in anticipation for baby’s arrival. Finally, on the afternoon of August 7th, 2019 my waters spontaneously broke! I immediately called my husband to head home as well as my midwife and Lety Knight my doula. I still hadn’t had any pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) yet so I told them I would keep them updated and let them know when I needed them to head over.

The original plan was to have my midwife, his assistant, my doula, and an observing doula as well as a birth photographer. Just a few minutes after talking to my midwife, my husband got home and things started picking up really quickly. I was listening to my tracks and using my Peace cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort). It had only been about 15 min since my waters broke and I was already in transformation (Hypnobabies word for transition).

When I realized this, I had my husband call my midwife and doula to come over. The pressure waves were continuous and I was focused on staying in my Bubble of Peace (Hypnobabies tool to keep negativity away) and using my Peace cue. To try to stay comfortable I filled the tub with warm water. As soon as I got in the tub I felt the bearing down sensation and knew it was time. My midwife and doula had not yet arrived and it was all happening so fast that we didn’t have time to call our photographer. I got on all fours in the water and was rocking back and forth.

With each pushing sensation, I would use my Release cue (Hypnobabies cue to instantly enter hypnosis) and any seconds in between I would focus on my Bubble of Peace. My husband stayed on the phone with our midwife because now I could reach down and feel the top of baby’s head. Soon our midwife ran in to let us know he was there and after quickly checking on me he ran back out to get his supplies, but seconds later babies head was born and he ran back in just in time to help catch the rest of my baby. It’s a boy!!!! It had only been one hour since my waters broke and I couldn’t believe that I was already holding my baby.

Cruz Michael was born August 7th, 2019 at 7 pm weighing 8lbs and 20” long. Shortly after that my doula arrived and helped me get comfortable and cozy with my sweet baby boy. Hypnobabies kept me calm and empowered through my fast and exciting birthing experience. I was able to stay focused and confident that my body knew what it was doing and we would be okay even if our midwife didn’t make it on time (but we are very glad he did!). Thank you to my amazing birth team and Hypnobabies!
