Laura’s 2.5 Hour Hypnobabies Home Waterbirth

“Through each wave I was “ahhhhhhh”ing and kept using my Peace cue (Hypnobabies tool for instant physical comfort) because things were very intense very quickly. I played “Your Birthing Time Begins” (Hypnobabies reminder of all the tools for birthing) and began to pace and lift and tuck to help baby descend.”

Our sweet boy Pax was born 8/22 at home. 10lbs 3oz. He is my 3rd hypno-baby and first home birth. He came so quickly, 2.5 hours. I had been having weeks of practice waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions) and because his birth was so efficient, I am confident those waves were making positive progress.

That night I went for a walk alone and told baby it was safe to come and we were ready for him. I did some lunges and psoas release before I got into bed. I listened to my “Deepening Your Hypnosis” track to fall asleep (Hypnobabies track to deepen the level of hypnosis) because I was super uncomfortable at 40+1 weeks.

I started having waves at 3:30 am that I couldn’t sleep through. I went to the toilet and my water broke spectacularly all over the bathroom. I woke my husband and told him to call the midwives. They were asking him the regular questions like: “how long has she been in active birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor) and how far are they apart?” To figure out how quickly they need to come.

Through each wave I was “ahhhhhhh”ing and kept using my Peace cue (Hypnobabies tool for instant physical comfort) because things were very intense very quickly. I played “Your Birthing Time Begins” (Hypnobabies reminder of all the tools for birthing) and began to pace and lift and tuck to help baby descend. I hadn’t been timing anything because I was in the zone and my husband had only been awake for 10 minutes that he told the midwives he’d start timing and call back. That is when I started yelling in the background that “this baby is coming fast, and they need to get here now!”

They arrived around 4:30 am and I was already completely dilated and just had a little bit left of the cervix to thin. My husband would gently push on my forehead and tell me “Relax” (Hypnobabies cue to deepen hypnosis) and say Peace” with me when I had a wave. From the onset of waves, they were less than 3 minutes apart, so I had next to no rest in between which was a little difficult to manage, but I just stayed calm and trusted the process. We started filling the tub immediately when the midwives arrived, and I enjoyed the warmth and comfort of the water.

I put on “Pushing Baby Out” (Hypnobabies track just for pushing) out loud and started to push in the water as my body felt the waves. It helped to hear about moving and different positions from the track. For some reason I was having a hard time pushing and needed some counter pressure from my midwife. When she pushed a bit on his head that had descended far down into my birth canal, I was able to push him right out.

Welcome to the world sweet Pax Orion. We love you.
