Kylie’s Beautiful Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“The next day the L&D RN visited me in maternity saying that she and my doctor had heard about hypnosis being used in childbirth but never believed it actually worked. She said that because of watching me use Hypnobabies, it changed their view of using hypnosis during childbirth and said they were very impressed.”

I was woken up on Friday morning with mild pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions). I wasn’t sure that they were the real deal or not because it was so light and irregular. I tried going back to sleep but that didn’t work so after lying in bed for a while I got up to take a walk with my husband. By the time we got back, I realized that I was having the waves consistently enough to play my “Your Birthing Time Begins” track (Reminder of all the tools to remain comfortable). I settled on my birthing ball and started tracking the waves. They were becoming consistent, approximately 4-5 min apart and about 30 seconds in duration. I got the feeling that this was it and climbed into the tub which was so soothing. My plan was to have stayed as long as I could at home during my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) because I was planning the birth for the hospital.

I started listening to Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track) and then as things progressed I started playing “deepening your hypnosis” and focusing on going completely off. My husband was by my side the entire time, my mom & sister supported me while at home. I had my eyes closed and earphones on most of my birthing time which kept me focused on staying in hypnosis.

As pressure waves intensified at home, we called our doula & together decided it was time to head to the hospital. Once we got there around 4:30 pm, I was checked and was 5-6 cm dilated with waves every 4 min. I was in the triage room for a couple of hours and locked into my hypnosis with eyes closed. That time seemed to fly by. I continued listening to “Deepening Your Hypnosis” (Hypnobabies hypnosis track to deepen level of hypnosis), literally had it on repeat. I could hear the nurses coming and going and was aware of my surroundings while being in hypnosis, totally calm. My husband said at this stage the nurses and even my doula would watch the pressure wave peak on the monitor and were shocked that I appeared to be “sleeping” right through them.

I was finally moved into a birthing room where things intensified. I started having bloody show but my amniotic sac was still intact. My nurse was so awesome and paid close attention to my birth plan. At this point, I asked to be checked and was now progressed around 8-9cm, pressure waves coming every 2 min and about 1 min length. I had been in birthing time for approximately 15 hours and was starting to get a little fatigued. I lost my hypnosis slightly at the end and began asking for something to relieve the discomfort. The nurse, doula, and my husband were essential in keeping me focused on working through the pressure waves and sticking to my plan. At this point, I realized how important a good birthing team is. They lifted me up, helped me gather myself & continue moving forward.

I finally hit 10cm with an anterior lip and began to involuntary push. My amniotic sac had a fore bag and was very difficult to rupture but finally did. Once it ruptured, I felt a sense of relief. I figured the pushing phase would be the most difficult but happily, I was wrong. I tried staying in upright positions to bring that baby down, but his heart rate started to drop and I had to lay on my side for a while.

The nurse kept telling me I needed to blow away the pressure wave and that I wasn’t ready to push yet. But I had hit a point where pushing was inevitable, felt good and my doula encouraged me to listen to my body. I reached down and could feel a wrinkle on the head of my baby and knew I was close to crowning. It encouraged me to continue on. I knew I was supposed to play the “Pushing Baby Out” track (Hypnobabies track for pushing), but there wasn’t a definitive time to stop and turn it on, it all kind of just flowed. After only 30 minutes of pushing, the doctor flew in, gowned up & caught my baby.

The next day the L&D RN visited me in maternity saying that she and my doctor had heard about hypnosis being used in childbirth but never believed it actually worked. She said that because of watching me use Hypnobabies, it changed their view of using hypnosis during childbirth and said they were very impressed.
