Kelly’s Fast, Comfortable Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“The attached picture is me only 20 minutes before Beckham was born and I am fully dilated and nearing end stage birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) – I was so content in my birthing time and do remember repeating to myself my favorite affirmation: each pressure wave (Hypnobabies word for contractions) brings my baby closer to my arms.”

I am blessed, beyond any of my wildest dreams, to announce the September (by 4 hours!) birth of my son, Beckham Robert. Born 9/30/18 at 36 weeks 3 days (I had an emergency Cerclage placed at 20 weeks, so we knew he would likely come a few weeks early) and weighing a healthy 7lbs 2oz and 19.5 inches in length.

I was diagnosed with a UTI this past Thursday after starting experiencing pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) and was being treated for that and everyone assumed my waves were UTI related as this is typical for pregnancy apparently. Well since I have nothing to compare it to I was apparently also in early birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) from Wednesday night to Sunday afternoon, progressing at home. I should mention I started Hypnobabies week 26 and have been practicing daily since- I never was sure I was fully “under” hypnosis while practicing or that it would “work” during childbirth but I was very motivated for an unmedicated birthing experience.

On the car ride to the hospital, I started my hypnosis tracks for birthing time, which made it so much easier. I continued listening to these tracks until pushing so was in hypnosis the whole time. I got to the hospital to have my Cerclage taken out per my OB as he said that was likely the best option- well he checked me and looked to my doula and said (he knew I didn’t want to know the dilation numbers) “she is many many centimeters- like all of them” it’s still a running joke around here 😉apparently I walked into the hospital (that’s under construction and a very far walk to labor and delivery) at 8cm and quickly went to 9 without much effort or awareness.

I’ve since found out that my OB asked my doula if I was asleep a few times during my birthing time- I was just that deeply in hypnosis and relaxed thanks to Hypnobabies. A little hands and knees with my doula and my body started breathing my baby out. I felt no fear and incredibly do not remember any discomfort sensations, only pressure. This is particularly incredible as my OB couldn’t get to my Cerclage in time and I had to push through it for my babe to be born.

Beckham was born after just three strong breath pushes only 4 hours after arriving at the hospital. I had to do my consents after being transferred to my postpartum room! Many people have mentioned to me that our birthing story is a great advertisement for Hypnobabies- I tend to agree and am so thankful for my experience with the program.
