Katie’s Intense Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“During the car ride I was listening to Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track). Once we arrived at his parents’ house (1:30 am) my waves were about 2-3 minutes apart and getting stronger and longer. With each one I used my Peace cue and let my body relax and I also found myself humming through each one which felt so good.”

My birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor) started on 7/30/2020 which was my guess date! I had been slightly bleeding off and, on all day, and having irregular pressure waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions). My husband and I decided to go about our day and to go have some fun, so we took our two-year-old daughter to the lake along with my sister and her three boys. After a few hours we decided to go home and have a steak dinner and then we played a round of corn hole.

At about 830 pm my pressure waves started to feel different and became regular about every 15 minutes. I told my husband that we would be having our baby so we should rest while we could. We got our daughter bathed and in bed and we ended up watching an episode of justified lol. While watching tv I was kneeling over my birth ball or sitting on it and with each wave I just allowed my body to fully relax. After our show ended my husband and I then laid down to get some rest and this was when I started my hypnosis tracks.

I listened to my tracks until about midnight then I woke my husband and we got things ready to go. At this time my pressure waves were 5 minutes apart and strong and I kept using my Peace cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort) which really helped me keep my body relaxed. We got all packed up and made the 25-minute drive to my husband’s parents’ house to drop off our daughter. During the car ride I was listening to Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track). Once we arrived at his parents’ house (1:30 am) my waves were about 2-3 minutes apart and getting stronger and longer. With each one I used my Peace cue and let my body relax and I also found myself humming through each one which felt so good.

We then headed to the hospital and checked in at 1:45 am and got into our room. Got my gown on and an IV started and hooked up to the monitor to check on baby boy. My husband got my lavender oil diffuser going as well as my salt lamp. My nurse then did a cervical check at 2:17 am and I was fully effaced and dilated to a 6. Pressure waves were still very close and very strong, and I was beginning to feel a lot of discomfort but was able to stay calm and relaxed and let my body do what it needed to. At about 2:30 am I started feeling extremely nauseous, so my nurse checked me again and I was at an 8 in transformation (Hypnobabies term for transition).

She then hurried and called my doctor to let him know he needed to get there soon! Everything was moving so fast at this time; I was unable to get back into hypnosis but continued to relax my body as much as possible. Just a few pressure waves later and I started to feel this uncontrollable urge to push with each pressure wave. My doctor was not there yet so I had to try not to push, which is very hard to do btw 😂 at this point things are getting pretty intense and I am in a lot of discomfort and also vocalizing…”AHHHH”… and grunting, which grew louder as the pressure waves peaked. I was so ready to get my baby out!

Once my doctor arrived and got ready, I was able to push! Pushing was such a relief other than the burning. I started to tear, and my doctor cut me a little more which I did give him consent even though I originally did not want an episiotomy I changed my mind in the moment. A few big pushes later and our baby boy was born at 2:57 am 7/31/2020 which is also my sisters’ birthday lol.
