Kathy’s Quick Hypnobabies Hospital Induction

“On the toilet the waves started, and I asked the nurse to fill the tub. We put on Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track) and I laid down and used ‘PEACE’ Cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort) through the waves.”

Newborn baby skin to skin and feedingThis is my third baby and second Hypno-baby. Each I planned a home birth, and each ended up being hospital births for different reasons. My first decided to come at 36 weeks—was very healthy). My second (39 weeks) had decreasing heart tones during pushing at home (Hypnobabies was so helpful during birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor) and transfer and it was a very easy birth).

This birth I was really hoping to be at home. Then we keep waiting and waiting and waiting. I did Fear Clearing (Hypnobabies track to release fear) and Visual Your Birth (Hypnobabies track that walks you through visualizing your perfect birth) tracks frequently as I passed 40 then 41 weeks. At 42 weeks we planned the induction at the hospital. I was sad but did feel this was best and was comfortable about the decision.

I was 3-4 cm at admission, so plan was for Pitocin, slowly administered- I had some fear around Pitocin from my first birth, and did the Fear Clearing track at the hospital. I liked to have my tracks playing out loud the whole birthing time. I then listened to Your Birthing Time Begins (Hypnobabies reminders of all tools and cues for birth).

Waves were very manageable, and I chose to listen to Easy Comfortable Childbirth track. I ate lunch and used my light switch (Hypnobabies technique for entering hypnosis) during waves. I still felt birthing time was a way off around 1 because it felt so comfortable and like what my weeks of practice waves at home had been.

I was sitting up had switched back to center when a very jolting sensation happened-like baby suddenly dropped and hit my pelvis or something. No discomfort just a very big feeling—I even asked if my husband had heard it because I swear, I had. I checked in with baby to make sure baby was ok and headed to the bathroom wondering if my waters were going to break.

On the toilet the waves started, and I asked the nurse to fill the tub. We put on Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track) and I laid down and used ‘PEACE’ Cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort) through the waves. As these were picking up, I could find the spaces in between and rest then moved to the tub.

Although I was silent though both of my previous births, I felt the need for low vocalizations with this time for the hospital induction, I focused on relaxing my face and breathing. Having Hypnobabies playing in the background was very helpful to remind me of prompts. I said “open” while breathing out and talked to my baby. I was able to talk to my doula, nurse, and husband in between power waves and ask for what I needed.

I started noticing that my body wanted to push, and the clear difference this felt like than when I had wanted to push earlier (which is when I worked on visual of opening instead).

I asked my husband to turn on ‘Pushing Baby Out’ (Hypnobabies track just for pushing) track and stood up at this point. I felt I needed gravity to help some. I waited in between waves and let my body push. Baby slowly moved head, eyebrows, eyes, nose, then chin out, my body was allowed to slowly accommodate and stretch. The midwife was holding a warm cloth to my perineum. I could feel baby wiggling down. Then was able to have the body slip out! Baby immediately started crying and I was able to check the gender!! It was a Girl! Birthed the placenta when it was ready and able to wait for cord to be white to cut. She was 10 pounds 6 ounces and 21 3/4 inches long! Apgar was 9/9! Total birth time when I hit more of the active phase was 2 1/2 hours with only 30 minutes of pushing. Only medication needed was the little bit of Pitocin and there was no tearing:). Thank you Hypnobabies!!!

Here is another great induction story!
