Julie’s Peaceful, Calm Hypnobabies Birth

Julie’s Peaceful, Calm Hypnobabies Birth

“I am so very pleased with our Hypnobabies experience. I’m also impressed with how relaxed, calm, and confident I felt during my birthing time. Initially I had concerns that I would be annoyed or irritated by the tracks once things got intense but this was not the case at all for me. I followed and flowed right along with each suggestion. I feel like my baby’s birth was everything I had envisioned and expected it would be!!”

This is my third child (siblings are 4yrs and 2yrs). I’ve experienced both medicated and doula assisted unmedicated births. My unmedicated birth was a much better healing both physically and mentally so for my third I knew I would take that route again. The reason I sought out Hypnobabies is because I wanted a calmer more peaceful unmedicated birth for my third and last baby.

I started the 7th edition Hypnobabies Home Study at 27 weeks and spent a little over a week on each lesson. It was very challenging getting all the practices in each day but I did the best that I could. I tried to focus on positive thoughts and really envision the perfect birth that I wanted. I felt confident even though I fell asleep during many of the tracks and wasn’t diligent in doing every technique every day.

My Hypnobabies birth took place in a military hospital. My husband was my birth partner but was not involved with my home study or reading up on cues and practicing tracks with me. I considered a doula but was unwilling to invest up to the going rate of the area in which we recently moved. This was another reason I turned to the home study.

After 40 weeks and 2 days, I fell asleep listening to the Deepening hypnosis track. I had pressure waves wake me up at 11:45 pm. I turned on my Birthing Day Affirmations and started timing and they were coming at 7-10 minutes apart. I waited an hour before waking my husband. My ear buds stayed in while we made final preparations and left for the hospital at 1:30 which was a 40 min drive. I put on the playlist with the suggested tracks at the end of lesson 6 (7th edition) during the drive, and stayed with it until pushing time.

Deep belly breathing through pressure waves and focusing on the tracks helped to keep me relaxed during the drive. When we arrived at the hospital I only took my earbuds out when they needed to ask a question or two. All of the intake staff was very respectful of waiting until after each wave … which were becoming more powerful and 4 minutes apart.

I requested a nurse that likes to birth with unmedicated moms and luckily the hospital is very natural friendly. I had a cervical check when we arrived at 5 cm and denied checks until I felt an urge to push. I knew I’d need an IV due to being GBS posite but tried to tune out the restrictiveness. They offered me the birthing ball and we switched positions to what I felt my body and baby needed. I really felt so in tune with my body and the Hypnobabies tracks seemed to be right on que each step of the way.

I knew we reached transformation when I became super hot and nauseous. I focused on the Peace cue and saying “open, open, open”. I spent three or four powerfully intense waves facing the back of the bed on my hands and knees. I did my best to use horse lips and keep my bottom loose and kind of jiggled back and forth between waves (sounds silly but felt so good). At this point I remember hearing something along the lines of “As each wave becomes more powerful, you become stronger and even more powerful and your bringing your baby closer to you”. This was so empowering and allowed me to focus on the end result rather than the immediate discomfort.

Finally I felt a strong pressure in my bottom, then my membranes ruptured which had meconium in the fluid. I asked for another check because I felt such strong pressure. I asked my husband to get my bluetooth speaker and he started the Pushing Baby Out track, which I didn’t pay much attention to at all. I was still on my hands and knees facing the elevated head of the bed for the check and the first few pushes. I had a very difficult time pushing effectively in this position. I changed to on my back with my husband and nurse holding my feet and I wrapped my body around the baby and made some primal growling sounds when the urge came to push. I did have a moment where I shouted “get him out!” but in my head I knew it was best to wait with my body and let my body stretch. When I finally got the hang of effective pushing it only took 4 or 5 good strong ones and he was out at
4:04 am, after 4 hours of birthing time.

The midwife and nurses were all very supportive of our wishes. We delayed cord clamping and my husband cut the cord after placenta was released. Luckily he was crying loudly and hadn’t inhaled any meconium so he was able to stay with me skin to skin for two hours before they did his measurements. He was 8lbs 5oz and 20.5 inches long.
