Jamie’s Hypnobabies Home Waterbirth on Her Terms

“I was finally able to slip into extreme relaxation and hypnosis and was practically asleep in the pool when I started feeling pushy. With each wave that came, I kept telling myself “I like this” and “this feels good”.”

Part of visualizing my birth was to have my baby on the full moon and I set that intention in the way that I decorated my birth space. Moons and stars everywhere!! So, I was very excited to wake up on the morning of November 12th with tight belly pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) at 10 am.

I usually like to listen to my Hypnobabies audio tracks with a headband but today I found the headband to be irritating and decided to just play my tracks on the speakers. I listened to my Birthing Day affirmations while I did last-minute preparations for my birthing space. I set up my poolside snack table and turned on all of the dim lights that I had planned out, including LED curtain lights and some orange flameless LED candle lights.

By 2 pm I was ready for the comfort of the pool and my Easy First Stage track (Hypnobabies main birthing day track). My partner’s family is not very good with watching my toddler, so I was having a hard time staying in my Special Safe Place while I helplessly listened to my screaming toddler upstairs. Luckily my friends were driving from 80 miles away and they got there maybe around 4 pm and took over playing with my toddler.

My partner was having issues with the hot water setup for my pool and he has a short temper. I picked up on his irritation and I had to reinforce my Bubble of Peace (Hypnobabies tool to keep negativity away) to shut his emotions out of my safe place. So, between my irritated partner and screaming toddler, I was so grateful to have Kerry’s voice playing on the speaker and tried to just focus on the Hypnobabies audio tracks.

Everything got much easier when my friends arrived, the toddler stopped screaming and my partner calmed down. I was finally able to slip into extreme relaxation and hypnosis and was practically asleep in the pool when I started feeling pushy. With each wave that came, I kept telling myself “I like this” and “this feels good”. My partner continued to give me the “Peace” cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort) and apply counter pressure to my hips. I really appreciated hearing Kerry say that every 20 minutes would feel like 5 minutes. I felt that to be true and felt like my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) was flying by!!

Something told me to flip up onto my hands and knees and when I did, I felt the huge POP of my water breaking and it felt like the baby was about to shoot out like a cannonball!! I grabbed my perineum/labia with my hands and started saying no no no no to try slowing the baby down. I continued to say “Peace” in my head as I tried to refocus and breathe.

At this point, my partner jumped into the pool with me. With each pressure wave, the baby tried to launch out with a forceful vengeance, and I put my hands on my perineum to try to slow it down and go easy. I kept saying “peace” and “calm” in my head and tried to focus on Kerry’s voice through my vocalizations. After a few of these waves, the baby popped his head out and stared at my partner through the water. I continued my primal noises/panting while we patiently waited for baby to turn the shoulders and with the next wave the baby finally rocket launched into the water and my partner helped bring him to my lap where we got the full frontal view of our little baby boy!

Thank you so much to Kerry for once again guiding me through my birthing time. I never once doubted my ability to birth my baby at home under my own terms and conditions and I am forever grateful to now have 2 successful Hypnobabies home births!
