Thank You to Hypnobabies Instructor Jamie Jackson for sharing her student’s story with us!

Overall, I REALLY enjoyed the Hypnobabies course; and what I learned as far as mind training (hypnosis) goes, was incredible!!! If you guys remember, for 3 weeks prior I had been having inconsistent pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) during the day and more at night. The phrase “pressure wave” was what I felt to the “T.” It felt like pressure starting in my rectum and shooting up to my lower back, then wrapping around my lower abdomen. I had been practicing listening to my different Hypnobabies audio tracks during these pressure waves and also being in different positions.

Early Saturday morning, July 23rd, around 2 am, I woke up to pressure waves just a tad more intense than they had been. They had been coming every 3 to 4 minutes which was not unusual for me. I put on my Relaxation music (Very special music with Binaural beats) to see if I could go back to sleep. I was in and out of sleep with these pressure waves until about 7 am. I got up and got in the shower for about a half hour to see if they would calm down, but they didn’t.

Usually, once I get up and start moving around, my waves tend to calm down, but that wasn’t happening this time. Could this be it?!? I called my midwife and she told me to eat some breakfast and then go for a walk for an hour and see if the waves picked up any. So myself and my daughter went to Another Broken Egg and sat down and ate. This was around 9:30 am. I was having pressure waves the entire time we were there, but I was able to relax my body enough that it still only felt like pressure…more intense pressure. I did have to do the Finger- Drop technique (Hypnobabies tool for entering hypnosis) a few times. We got home around 11 am to start walking with my husband and everything had stopped! I was so frustrated!!! Surely, they would pick back up once we started walking, but they didn’t. We walked for about 45 minutes in the hot sun and still nothing. When I got back home I climbed the stairs a while, bounced on my birth ball, walked in place, anything I could think to do to start these pressure waves back up. Nothing was happening and I felt defeated! I really thought this was the day.

About 2 pm, I sat on the couch and fell asleep. I woke up out of my sleep at 3:15 pm with consistent pressure waves again, still not too intense!!! I went to the restroom and there was pinkish discharge on the tissue. I was super excited!!! I called my midwife to let her know that my waves had started again and that I had a little bloody show. I told her that they still weren’t intense or anything. She said okay and that she would head over to check me after she went home and fed her animals. It sounded like I was still pretty early. THAT WAS AT 3:35 pm!!! Things definitely started picking up after that; so much so, I didn’t realize just how much!

During this time I had ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN AT ALL!!!! I experienced different intensities of pressure, being the most intense pressure during transformation(what Hypnobabies calls transition). Because I did not have pain, I didn’t realize just how far along I was and how SUPER fast I was progressing!!! At around 5 pm, I realized that I was in transformation…the pressure waves were one on top of the other and the pressure was SOOOOO intense, still not painful; but I had to really concentrate on staying in hypnosis and keeping my muscles relaxed. I had been listening to Your Birthing Time Begins, LOL! I told my husband to find out how far away my midwife was and to let her know that I was in transformation. Our plan was to use a large birthing pool provided by my midwife to have a water birth. At 5:15 pm I told my mom to run upstairs and fill the tub up. I felt a little panicked because it was happening so fast and so unlike what we had planned. I headed upstairs, still experiencing super intense pressure in my rectum and vaginal area, still back to back, and still listening to my Your Birthing Time Begins track (not even a hypnosis birthing track!). With everything happening so fast, I hadn’t had a chance to change tracks or anything. There was probably 2 inches of water in the tub by the time I got up there, but I had to get in! As soon as I stepped in the tub, my water broke! This is when I started losing my focus.

My midwife arrived around 5:45 pm and was impressed at how much I was focused. Lol! I felt like I was losing my focus and she thought I was really focused! I think I was so caught off guard that it was pushing time, that I lost my focus and that’s when I experienced pain, but it was manageable pain…no screaming or yelling or saying that I can’t do this. I wasn’t listening to any hypnosis tracks at this point. My husband was supporting my head and back and using the Relax cue (to deepen hypnosis).

So I called my midwife to let her know I was having pressure waves at 3:35 pm and my daughter was here at 6:26 pm. Definitely not the experience I had with my 1st daughter, Sydney. Even though I didn’t have a 100% pain-free birth, the majority of my birthing time was pain-free!!! I think that if I had realized just how far along I was in the beginning, and was able to transition to the different hypnosis tracks for birthing time like Pushing Baby Out, and mentally prepare for how fast it was going to be, I would have been able to maintain my focus and had that 100% pain-free birth. So I would say Hypnobabies was a MAJOR SUCCESS!!! I would recommend it to anyone and everyone who may want the possibility of a PAIN-FREE birth! I never knew it could be possible, but I’m a believer today and always! HYPNOBABIES ROCKS!!!! YOU GOT THIS MOMMAS!!! Safe and enjoyable birth to you ladies and healthy babies too!!!
