Hypno-Baby Vienna Edythe was Born on her Guess Date!

“At 1 am, I decided to get checked and I was at a 10! I started pushing on my knees hanging over the back of the bed and it was going really well.”

I was experiencing pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contraction) for 24 hours at home before heading to the hospital and hanging out in the lobby for 2 more hours before checking in. I’m SO glad I didn’t find out my numbers because at 9 pm I was at a 4 or a 5 and I would’ve been so defeated.

Baby was extremely low and I felt like I had to push, but was instructed that it was definitely not time. I breathed through each wave and used my PEACE cue (Hypnobabies technique to direct comfort to where needed) to make it through each one with lots of intense pressure in my bottom. At 11:15 pm I was checked again and I was at an 8. I again didn’t want to know my number, but my doula assured me that I was doing it and I was getting close.

At 12:30 I really wanted to get checked but my doula urged me to wait just a little bit longer. At 1 am, I decided to get checked and I was at a 10! I started pushing on my knees hanging over the back of the bed and it was going really well. When the OB came in, she insisted that I push on my back and I said no! My doula’s compromise was a side laying position with one leg up.

I pushed for 41 minutes and my beautiful baby girl was born at 1:59 am! She was 8 lbs 2 oz and I only needed 2 stitches! It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it was so worth it. I’m having an amazing recovery and 12 days later I’m feeling mostly normal. My husband was an amazing birth partner & having an amazing doula was priceless.

Bubble of Peace!

My blood pressure was high (for the first time during my pregnancy) and baby’s heart rate was dipping through my waves so I did not get my intermittent monitoring and this was my most hated part of my birthing time. I wanted to be in the shower, but they would not let me take off the extremely tight straps across my belly and the blood pressure cuff was impossibly tight. I was frustrated, but this did not stop me from having the birth I wanted. I am glad I spent the majority of my birthing time in the comfort of my home so I wasn’t strapped in even longer. I am already thinking about using a midwife and birthing at a birth center for my next baby 😉
