Upright positions aid your progress during birthing time using gravity to help bring your baby down quicker than staying in bed. Using a birth ball is a perfect way to be upright when you choose to be and remain deeply in hypnosis, without sacrificing comfort.
We recommend that our students practice forward leaning positions on a birth ball while doing their hypnosis techniques and deep relaxation every day, listening to Hypnobabies scripts, audio tracks and Birth Partner cues.
Becoming comfortable using a birth ball during deep relaxation and hypnosis long before your first pressure wave begins allows you to use it with ease during childbirth.
How to Practice:
🔹Have your phone/device ready to play your hypnosis track(s).
🔹Place your birth ball in front of a corner of your bed, or the corner of the arm of a sofa or chair.
🔹Wedge a sturdy shoe under each side of the birth ball to brace it and to keep it from moving.
🔹Sit on your ball with your belly facing the corner of the bed, or the arm of a chair or sofa, with your belly close to the corner and your knees wrapped around each side.
🔹Stack 3+ pillows lengthwise to make yourself comfy.
🔹Lean forward onto your stack of pillows and put one cheek on the pillow.
🔹You should be upright enough so that it is still comfortable to breathe, and your back doesn’t feel strained; if not, use an additional pillow.
🔹You can let your arms dangle at your sides, drape them over your thighs, or slip your hands and forearms in between the pillows.
When you are sitting on your birth ball, your shins and thighs should be at right angles to one another; thighs parallel to the floor.
This is how you will practice with your Lightswitch in the OFF position when you are learning your tools and cues. Switch to CENTER to readjust, if needed, and switch back OFF during practice.
