High-Risk Hypno-mom’s Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

This was my 4th pregnancy, 2nd birth, and 1st natural delivery. I was high-risk with my previous pregnancies as well as this one, but my healthy pregnancy and confidence in my birth choices led my maternal fetal medicine OB to be on board with a natural, unmedicated birth. I started Hypnobabies home study right away and hired a Hypnobabies certified doula. My husband was hesitant, but as he went through the materials he became more and more confident in our decision. In fact, he was jealous of all my hypnosis time and wanted more of it for himself 😂

Baby’s guess date was March 1. I didn’t realize I was having practice waves, but my doula pointed them out to me around 38 weeks, but they were nothing. I went for a walk the evening of March 1 which seemed to increase the power of the practice waves, but still nothing of note.

I woke up at 2 am with birthing waves just 4 minutes apart, but they were super mild. Tracked for about an hour then turned on the Deepening track and went to sleep. Woke up an hour and a half later with more powerful waves but they were further apart. Still wasn’t sure if it was my birthing time. I stayed in bed and watched a show while I waited for my hubby to get up.

At around 6 or so I started listening to my Hypnobabies hypnosis tracks and stayed in bed which seemed to slow things down. Doula stayed in the loop. Popped in to check on me at 10, but saw how well I was handling my waves and went back home. At noon I lost mucus plug so we called the doula back over and I moved to the birthing ball. Waves were more powerful and closer together, but with hypnosis I was still handling them really well. Something told me it was time to head to the hospital, so we did, although I was worried I wouldn’t be far enough along.

Left for hospital at 1 pm and arrived at 2 pm. The first half of the ride was a breeze, but it became more difficult to maintain hypnosis as we got closer. However, I kept headphones in the whole time and stuck to it as much as I could. By the time we reached triage my body took over and I told them baby was coming. They didn’t believe me, but did a quick check – complete. Next thing I knew they were rushing me down the hall to a birthing room.

I switched to Pushing Baby Out track and kept one headphone in while my doula coached my husband in talking to me in the other ear. 12 minutes after arriving in the birthing room, our baby girl was here. Team 💚 turned 💗

No medications. No interventions. Before or after baby’s arrival. I continued to use hypnosis to help with post-partum discomfort as well, whether it was cramping, nursing, or even my fear of using the bathroom 😂

I’m so incredibly grateful for Hypnobabies and my Hypnobabies doula. Get this… my husband said… “next time I think we should just do a homebirth.” He recognized how comfortable I was at home with the hypnosis tracks and saw how the transition to the hospital threw me off a bit. I’ll never do another birth without Hypnobabies and now I want some hypno-life tracks.
