Hannah’s Empowering Hypnobabies Birth Center Birth

“I asked for the birth stool and they quickly brought it in the bathroom. I turned around to squat on the stool and I had a gentle wave that made her crown even more. I was able to push in between waves and gently push her out. I felt very in control while pushing.”

I had my second baby and second Hypno-baby on 11/28. I loved my first birth and looked forward to my second birth. Although, they were two completely different experiences they were both amazingly empowering.

Hypnobabies Student just after birth in bathroom at birth center with partner and midwiveI started having birthing waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions) starting right at 37 weeks. At least half a dozen times I was sure it was my birthing time. It was an emotionally draining few weeks. Then the morning of my guess date (Hypnobabies term for due date) I woke up at 7 am to a few gentle birthing waves. And then my water broke! I was so relieved and excited that today was indeed my birthing day! I got up and took a shower and arranged for our daughter to be picked up by my in-laws. I listened to Your Birthing Time Begins (Hypnobabies reminder of all tools for birthing) and Birthing Day Affirmations as I got ready. I texted my doula and the birth center to let them know my waters had ruptured. Sadly, my wonderful Doula was sick, so she connected me with her back up (who we ended up loving as well).

My birthing waves were gentle and sporadic. It felt like they came in clusters and then would fizzle out. My husband and I spent the day alternating going for walks to try and get things going and resting. 7 PM marked 12 hours since my water had broken, and I was fighting discouragement. I was starting to feel the pressure of “being on the clock.” I texted our doula and let her know I was starting to feel frustrated. She suggested I try the Miles circuit to help progress things. I had halfheartedly tried the Miles circuit a few times earlier in the day but decided to give it a real try with the help of my husband. I put my headphones in and listened to Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing day track) and my husband helped support me in the upside-down position for the full 30 minutes! It was well worth it because my birthing time kicked into full gear after 10 minutes of being upside down.Hypnobabies family with newborn baby in bed at birth center

I texted my doula and asked her to come over and texted the birth center with an update. I started shaking uncontrollably which happened during transformation (Hypnobabies term for transition) with my first. So as soon as our doula got to our house, we all headed to the birth center. I kept my headphones in and was still listening to Easy First Stage. I was comfortable the whole 20-minute ride to the birth center. We got to the birth center and settled in. I remembered that with my first baby I got in the tub right away and my birthing time stalled for about 20 minutes and I didn’t want to chance that happening again. I was ready to meet my baby! We immediately got settled into the room and my body knew exactly what to do. My waves picked up again in frequency and intensity. I sat on the birth ball leaning over the bed with my husband and doula providing counter pressure and massage which I loved. I really appreciated our hypno-doula. She used the Relax (Hypnobabies technique to deepen hypnosis) and Release (Hypnobabies cue to instantly enter hypnosis) cues and my body responded very well to those.

newborn baby just after birth being held by momAbout an hour after arriving at the birth center my doula suggested I try going to the bathroom. I went to the bathroom and there was a tinge of blood on the tp and I was starting to feel pushy. I stood up to wash my hands and had a powerful wave. I must have made some noise because my whole birth team immediately ran into the bathroom. I told them I was ready to get in the tub, so My husband started to help me undress. The next wave my water completely ruptured gushing everywhere and surprising me. The next wave I felt her move into my pelvis and by the time I got my pants off I had another wave, and she was crowning. I asked for the birth stool and they quickly brought it in the bathroom. I turned around to squat on the stool and I had a gentle wave that made her crown even more. I was able to push in between waves and gently push her out. I felt very in control while pushing. My husband joked that I looked so in control of the pushing that I could have sucked her back up that was encouraging because I spent a lot of my prep time listening to Comfortable Pushing Practice and it was worth it.Newborn baby

10:30 PM Ivy was born in the bathroom, less than an hour and half after getting to the birth center. She was 7 pounds 15 inches. Overall, this birthing time was much more intense and faster but thanks to Hypnobabies and my amazing support team I felt in control and present the entire time. I’m thankful for another empowering and beautiful birth story.
