First Time Mom’s Fast Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“I took a shower and turned on my Deepening Your Hypnosis track (Hypnobabies track to deepen the level of hypnosis) but after about 10 minutes of the track I could feel that my waves were getting closer together and thought I should wake my husband up to time them this was around 8:30 am.”

Our little team green baby is here! Say hello to Rory Jayne born 06/08/2019 just 10 days before her guess date! Here’s the tale of her grand entrance.

Yesterday (06/08) I was awoken around 7 am with period-like waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) and thought to myself this might be it! I took a hot shower and attempted to let my husband sleep a little while longer since he had been up late Friday night. The waves started out what seemed to me to be pretty strong and quite close together at 2-4 minutes apart.

I took a shower and turned on my Deepening Your Hypnosis track (Hypnobabies track to deepen the level of hypnosis) but after about 10 minutes of the track I could feel that my waves were getting closer together and thought I should wake my husband up to time them this was around 8:30 am. He started to time them as I relaxed and found that they were about 1-1/2 minutes apart and increasing with intensity. I lost focus on my Hypnobabies pretty quickly as we attempted to throw together the last-minute items for the hospital bag. We left the house around 9:15 am and arrived at the hospital just before 10 am at 5-6cm dilated & 80% effaced!

After a few more waves I began vomiting and shaking pretty badly and was having trouble relaxing and remembering to breathe. My husband was applying pressure to my shoulders and using our Release (cue to instantly enter hypnosis) and Peace (cue for instant physical comfort) cues to keep me calm. The on-call dr. mentioned wanting to break my water which I declined as I felt things were progressing rapidly enough on their own (I’m a FTM everyone told me this would take so long!)

As I entered transformation (Hypnobabies word for transition) I had my husband put on Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing day track), this was the first time since coming out of the Deepening track that I was able to settle in one place long enough to actually turn anything on. After lots of vomiting and many back to back pressure waves with no breaks between my water broke on its own and things became intense enough that we decided to accept the epidural when I was 8-9cm dilated.

Unfortunately the epidural only worked on the left side of my body leaving the right side of my body to do all of the leg work (literally!) we ended up actually turning it off by the time it came to push baby out and I was able to try different positions to move her down and out. My doctor said he actually hadn’t had a patient push on all fours in over 20 years! After almost 2 hours of pushing and trying different positions, he said it seemed she had been turning and he was having trouble feeling her position he mentioned episiotomy which I said I wanted to avoid if at any way possible.

Rory was born at 3:35 pm with no episiotomy needed! My dr. did lots of perineal massage and I used my Pushing Baby Out track (Hypnobabies track just for pushing) to focus on pushing as effectively and comfortably as possible. It wasn’t exactly the drug-free birth I had planned for but it was definitely the QUICK birth I had been envisioning! My birthing time tracks kept me calm and focused when the time came and I’m so thankful for Hypnobabies ☺️
