First Time Mom Ya-Ju’s Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“Doctor wanted to give me Pitocin and told us Vincent need to be out in 24 hours since my water already broke. We were able to decline and ask for more time (thanks for Hypnobabies training).”

My overall pregnancy was healthy. I just had very intense morning sickness from week 6 to week 23. I have been doing daily exercises (yoga and walking) my entire pregnancy. Started perineal massage from week 35, 5 min/day for 3-4 times/week.

Baby Vincent was born at 37 week + 5 days on July 22nd.

I woke up on July 21st 7:30 am in the morning, and my water broke when I got out of my bed. I called my mom and made sure what I felt was actual water broke (it was my first pregnancy, so I had no idea). We got to the hospital at 10 am, and the nurses did the external and internal examinations showing that I had no birthing waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions) and Vincent still was at -2 station. Doctor wanted to give me Pitocin and told us Vincent need to be out in 24 hours since my water already broke. We were able to decline and ask for more time (thanks for Hypnobabies training). We did lots of walking and squats till probably 2 pm, but still no signs of birthing waves.

The doctor talked to us using Cervadil to soften my cervix. We were debating if we should decline or not. After discussing with my husband, we accepted the treatment. My birthing waves started around 8 pm. I was able to walk around and had conversations till prob 2 pm. Later, the birthing waves got stronger and more intense and I had to be very focused on the audio track. At around 5:30 pm, I had strong discomfort and I kind of loss of hypnosis. I asked my nurse if I’m able to give birth without any pain medication. My nurse and my husband were my best cheerleaders. They were both very certain I can do it and kept telling me I have been doing a great job. Soon after (prob about 5 min) I felt the urge to push. I told the nurse that I’m ready. My body was right and knew what to do. After 30 minutes of pushing, baby Vincent was born!

My favorite audio track during my birthing waves was Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track). I listened to it over and over again. The bonus tracks for after birth are really helpful too. I have been listening to it every day since Vincent’s birthday.

I’m so grateful to this program! I was confident to make decisions on the birth date. I’m also grateful to the wonderful nurses at the hospital and my husband. I would say giving birth is a beautiful journey!
