I had my weekly midwife appointment on Tuesday (5.19.2020) and I measured a little bigger than she wanted, so she sent me for an ultrasound Wednesday (5.20.2020) morning. At that ultrasound, they estimated my little girl was close to 11 pounds. 😳 The doctor there said he was going to call my midwife to discuss some options and that I should expect a call.

On the drive home from the ultrasound, I listened to my Joyful Pregnancy Affirmations to keep my head in a good place. My favorite one in that moment was “I accept whatever path my pregnancy and my baby’s birth bring to me.”

I got a call shortly after asking me to come to my midwife center. I grabbed my husband and we went. In the ultrasound, they were measuring a discrepancy that her chest was bigger than her head, and because of her estimated weight, I could no longer birth at the center. I needed to be induced and at a hospital, so they set me up to go to a nearby hospital that I could still be under midwifery care. I got scheduled for an induction at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday (5.21.2020).

While at my appointment, she decided to check me with a cervical exam (which I used my “Peace” cue for (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort)) and I was already 5 cm dilated and 75% effaced! She said my cervix was “awesome,” 😂 and that it was super stretchy. She also did a membrane sweep, which I think was probably responsible for what happened next.

We headed home, and within a couple hours of being home, I started having gentle birthing waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions). I wasn’t entirely sure that’s what they were, but once I was having to focus breathing through them and listening to hypnosis tracks, my husband decided it was time to go to the hospital.

On the way to the hospital, I listened to “Your Birthing Time Begins,” and legit, you guys, I felt my cervix gently opening in the car. I was slightly concerned I was going to have a car baby!! 🤣😂

We got to the hospital, and the midwife checked me. I was already 8 cm dilated and 100% effaced!! She couldn’t believe it. During each birthing wave, I heavily focused on my “Peace” cue and pretty much kept my switch in the center position (Hypnobabies technique for being in eyes open hypnosis). I was able to breathe through each one with some “ahhhhhs” and then talk and laugh in between each one.

As the birthing waves got more intense, I started pushing more through them. I didn’t necessarily feel like it was time to push baby out, it just helped relieve some of the pressure. Never once did I feel any “pain” during my birthing waves – just a wonderfully intense pressure sensation, and I would cooperate with my body to help it with what it was doing!

It finally came time to push, and my husband put on “Pushing Baby Out” (Hypnobabies track just for pushing). Pushing did take a while, but from the time I started having my birthing waves to the time Paris was born was only SIX AND A HALF HOURS! Mind you, this was my FIRST birth and first pregnancy.

Paris was born at 10:19 p.m. on 5.20.2020 and ended up only being 9.5 pounds and there was NO discrepancy between her head and chest — she was perfect!

After baby was out, the entire birthing team was raving about how calm I was. They all said that they absolutely could not believe I was 100% unmedicated. They said that natural births never went this calmly and that they could tell I was so focused. My midwife was bragging on me and was so proud of me!

After it was all over, I looked at my midwife and said, “Gosh, childbirth is not painful and as difficult as everyone says!” She and the birthing team laughed and said, “You’re one of a kind. That hypnosis really worked for you!”

My husband was my birthing partner and was an absolute rock star. He did the “Relax” cue (Hypnobabies cue to deepen the level of hypnosis) quite a bit and held my hand through every birthing wave.

THANK YOU, HYPNOBABIES!!! For giving me and my family the most beautiful, loving, and wonderful birthing experience, I could’ve ever had. My husband even said he couldn’t believe how quickly I dilated because of how calm I was.

And an encouragement to all you hypno-moms who will be having your baby soon — YOU CAN DO THIS! ♥️🙌🏼🥰
