First Time Mom Lauriana’s Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“Once his head and shoulders were out my OB told me to reach down and pull him out and of course I ask, “who me?” . So, I pulled him out and the helped place him on my chest and I just say, “he’s so small!””

This is my rainbow baby after going through a miscarriage last year. After having a miscarriage, I just wanted a healthy pregnancy and a healthy birth, and a healthy baby and I am overjoyed to say that I got to experience all 3. Our baby boy was born August 21st; a day after listening to the Come Out Baby track (Hypnobabies track to encourage baby to come – I definitely recommend it).

I always knew that when my time came to have a baby that I wanted to go as unmedicated as possible so when doing research on it and looking for coping methods and birth classes that supported that, I found Hypnobabies and decided why not and I’m so glad I did. I was far from a “good student”. About 2 weeks before my guess date (Hypnobabies term for due date) I was barely listening to the tracks and rarely looked at the class and readings even though I only had two classes to finish the course. I never got to maintenance week or even downloaded all the tracks that were recommended to listen to during birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor). Even with all that, I was still able to use the techniques to have the birth that I wanted.

My guess date was August 21st so on August 20th I bought the Come Out Baby track. I definitely should have prepared all of my birthing tracks before listening to it, but I figured that I would still have time. I listened to Come Out Baby twice that day and listened to it as I was going to bed. Pressure waves began at 4:30 am but were far apart and not intense. They started to get consistent around 6:30 am and I began timing them. They were 6-5mins apart. My OB wanted me to call when they were 3mins apart and that way for two hours since it was my first time giving birth.

At 9:30 am I called my husband and told him it’s time for him to come home because it’s happening. At that point they were 4-3mins apart and I called my OB and they wanted me to come in. We got to the hospital at 11 am and I was checked and only 3 cm dilated. I know we don’t birth by numbers, but I was a little disappointed and wanted to be at least 5 cm. They weren’t sure if they were going to admit me and said they’ll check me again in two hours. When they came back, I was 7 cm(1pm)! I was admitted and was left alone to do my thing. I listened to Deepening Your Hypnosis (Hypnobabies track for deepening the level of hypnosis) for the majority of my birthing time and used my Finger Drop to remain in the Center. Probably around 4:30 pm I asked for some gas and air because I was just tired, however, if I knew I would start pushing soon I probably would’ve skipped it. 30mins later I was 10cm and ready to push.

I pushed for half an hour and his head was crowned but I wasn’t making much progress and they were a bit concerned for his heart rate, so they gave me an episiotomy and used a vacuum. It turned out he was sunny side up so that’s why he was a bit difficult to push out. Even though I didn’t want interventions, I felt completely okay and fine with it thanks to Hypnobabies. Once his head and shoulders were out my OB told me to reach down and pull him out and of course I ask, “who me?” . So, I pulled him out and the helped place him on my chest and I just say, “he’s so small!” My first born and first hypno-baby was born August 21st at 5:58 pm weighing 6lbs 10oz and 18in long.

Wishing you all safe pregnancies and births.
