First Time Mom Karsten’s Hypnobabies Hospital Birth
“I listened to Easy First Stage the entire 45-minute drive down to the hospital. I was calm and collected even as my pressure waves intensified on the drive. With each wave I thought Open, Relax, Peace (Hypnobabies cues to deepen hypnosis and create comfort).”

When my husband and I found out the exciting news we were expecting our first baby, I was daunted by the idea of giving birth. After doing some research I came across Hypnobabies and this concept and ideology really spoke to me. It was the only method I found that I really connected with and wanted to explore further. I spoke to my OBGYN about it at my next appointment and she mentioned she had heard positive things about Hypnobabies. I went home and purchased the Home Study course and so began my Hypnobabies journey.
I loved the course and MP3s. I started the course around 20 weeks and began listening to the instructed tracks. My way of thinking about birth became very positive and protective. My Bubble of Peace (Hypnobabies tool to help keep negativity away) was very useful and I loved the Deepening Your Hypnosis (Hypnobabies track for deepening hypnosis), Fear Clearing (Hypnobabies special track for releasing fear), Special Safe Place (Hypnobabies hypnosis track to create a safe place) and Joyful Pregnancy Affirmation tracks. My husband loved the program as well, at night we would sit together and listen to one of the tracks together, so we were on the same page with our technique and birth plan. We also enjoyed the communication worksheet and found that it brought us closer together throughout the pregnancy.
On December 23, 2018 at 2am I woke up to pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) – I had never experienced one before, I didn’t have any pre-term or early birthing warm up pressure waves. I didn’t quite know what I was experiencing because our birth date wasn’t until January 7, 2019, so I was hesitant to think I was in my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor). After a few position changes, waves still came and went so I woke my husband up and told him what I was experiencing. The waves continued and he got out his wave timer and we began to track them. I was having 30-45 second pressure waves every 5-10 minutes. After having them for roughly 45 minutes, we decided to load up the car and make the drive to the hospital. While he packed, I got into our bathtub, put on my Easy First Stage track (Hypnobabies main birthing day hypnosis track) and relaxed. The tub felt wonderful!
I listened to my Easy First Stage track the entire 45-minute drive down to the hospital. I was calm and collected even as my pressure waves intensified on the drive. With each wave I thought Open, Relax, Peace (Hypnobabies cues to deepen hypnosis and create comfort). As I was walking into the hospital lobby, my membranes released all over the lobby floor! My husband whisked me up to the labor and delivery wing of the hospital where I was escorted to my birth room. I immediately put on my special birthing robe and got on the birth ball while listening to Your Birthing Time Begins track. By this time, it was around 5 am. My doctor came in and checked my cervix – I didn’t want to know the results but she discreetly told my husband where I was at. I never knew, but I was 8 cm dilated at the time of arrival. My doctor smiled and did tell me we would be meeting our baby girl soon.
I sat on the birth ball listening to Your Birthing Time Begins and Birthing Day Affirmations while my husband controlled the room. Around 6:30am I told the nurse in my room that I needed to start pushing. My doctor came into the room and said that I was correct and was ready to start pushing. My husband put on the Pushing Baby Out track (Hypnobabies hypnosis track for more comfortable pushing) on his portable speaker, I got on my hands and knees on the bed and calmly birthed my baby girl in 6 pushing waves.
Unbeknownst to me, while I was pushing, a few other doctors and nurses came into the room to observe. After the fact, they said that I was so calm and in control and it was such a beautiful birth to watch. The next day I even had nurses coming in my room to ask about Hypnobabies and the methodology.
Hypnobabies helped give me the birth I had visualized and sought after. It was calm, organic and empowering to be able to bring our baby girl into the world in such a positive, loving way. From the time I woke up with pressure waves at home to the time she was born was a little less than 5 hours – our baby girl made her debut at 6:51am.
I can’t recommend this program enough – it truly prepared me for a wonderful natural birth!
