As two mothers trying to balance work and family, we have found something even better: a harmonious partnership!   We live close to each other, have the same interests and goals, and our kids even share birthdays! The ways we are different are complimentary, and we learn from each other every day. We are inspired by the women we serve, and we love to walk with families on their journeys through birth and parenthood. We have discovered how fun the business side of this work can be, now that we have each other supporting our efforts.

I am Karen Zamperini. A wife, mother, and birth supporter.

When I got pregnant with my first child, I was living in Egypt. I went back to the US to find a doctor and a doula for my birth. Why doula? Years before karen z doulahaving a child was even remotely on my radar screen, I heard Ricki Lake talk about doulas. It seemed like an obvious choice, especially since my husband would be coming from Egypt and might miss the birth. I had a cesarean birth due to persistent breech presentation and my doula was amazing support before, during and after.

I learned so much overcoming my own breastfeeding challenges, that I began to help others through breastfeeding support groups and online. I even took my son to Washington, DC for a Breastfeeding rally and to Ohio for a breastfeeding blog community picnic.

While preparing for my VBAC, I found Hypnobabies. There was no teacher in my area, so I did the Home Study. My birth was so amazing, that I began helping others in person and online to prepare for VBACs. I always recommended Hypnobabies. The first person I encouraged was my doula’s next client after me. I always think of her in June, the month of her VBAC. A friend asked me to doula for her VBAC and so I began doula work and there was no turning back!

I was so inspired by my experiences that I flew with my entire family from Korea to St. Louis, MO so I could attend instructor training and bring Hypnobabies to the English-speaking expat community in Korea. In fact, my daughter celebrated her 2nd birthday at the training.

After returning to Korea and completing certification, I began teaching in Korea. We moved shortly after my first class finished and I landed on the Main Line. Here, I was lucky enough to be able to take the live class to prepare for my birth. Even though, I was already an instructor and had already had a great Hypnobabies birth, taking the class as a student was a great experience. My husband and I had time to focus on just baby#3, and we were able to devote the time to preparing for her birth. My daughter was another fast, easy (though early) Hypnobabies VBAC and when she was just 7 weeks old, I began teaching Hypnobabies.

karen z familyI love to help families on the journey through birth to parenthood. Witnessing them bloom into confident parents is truly inspiring. I love to “pay forward”, all of the support and encouragement I have received and I learn so much from the families I serve as well. I thank all of the families who have honored me by allowing me into their sacred space. I love what I do! (If you find Nancy and I together, we are probably talking about birth, breastfeeding or hypnosis in some way)!

I am Nancy Kelly. A wife, mother, and birth supporter.

As a birth worker, caring for women as they prepare for birth and motherhood is so special. I am humbled each time a woman and her partner invite me to take part in their birth preparation.

nancy k babyMy road to birth work began during my first pregnancy, although I did not know it at the time. I yearned for a peaceful birth experience, and with good practice and preparation, I achieved just that. I used Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis to prepare for my son’s birth. I enjoyed the Hypnobabies program so much, I used it again just 18 months later for the birth of my daughter. Both births, though very different from each other, were transformational experiences. My life was truly changed forever, not just by becoming a mother, but by the birth experiences themselves. I wanted to share the amazing experiences I had with others. I wanted other women to know they could have peaceful and pleasant births too.

I began to become very interested not just in all things birth-related, but I was also eager to learn more about hypnosis. Hypnosis had such a strong and positive effect on my birth experiences, I knew I could benefit from hypnosis in other areas of my life; and I wanted to help others learn about hypnosis too. I studied and trained to become a certified hypnotherapist, and I am now reaping many benefits from the practice of daily self-hypnosis. It has been a pleasure to work with others, in both group settings and private sessions, to teach about hypnosis, and to utilize hypnotherapy to help clients meet their goals.

With the support of my family, I began my work as a doula, as well. To be with birthing women, help them prepare for birth and motherhood, and to attend to them during the transformative moment of birth, is a both an honor and a pleasure. I truly enjoy the work I do!

Drawing on my background as a teacher, I find birth work is as much about education as it is about birth itself. Having access to evidence-based information is the only way to make a well-informed decision. When it comes to birth, we live in a society that perpetuates myths rather than facts. I believe it is my job to offer the most up-to-date fact-based information about pregnancy and birth. I enjoy being able to provide such information, whether through childbirth classes or in working with doula clients. Women and their partners will then make the best decisions for themselves.

I currently offer hypnotherapy, hypno-doula services, Hypnobabies classes and placenta preparations in the Philadelphia area.

In addition to my hypnosis and birth work, I can be found most often with my two children, Luke and Maggie, and my husband Chris. We live on the Main nancy k familyLine, in the suburbs of Philadelphia. We enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, and having family dance parties in our living room! I enjoy reading, going for walks, eating good food and studying nutrition. I am a budding yogi, and enjoy meditation too. I enjoy exercise (yes, I really do!) as well as home-making, and of course, I can always be found with my nose in a good birth book!

  • I am very inspired by Kerry, Karen and Nancy.:)

In 2013, I birthed my 7th child on my own with my hubby and our two daughters because no one wanted to allow me to have the birth I was dreaming about. Sadly I didn’t know about hypnobabies, only hypnobirthing from my third birth (2001).
I was not granted help because what I wanted was a water birth without nurses poking me, talking to me and touching me too much, lights off, hands off and letting me get in the water on my time, have the position on my time etc… .
The major fear for anyone I contacted and begged was the fact that I was almost 37, and my babies # 4, 5, and 6 had been C/Sections. Therefore NO VBACs allowed. Everyone told me how crazy I was, but I took my pregnancy in my own hands, had my prenatal done while I studied and studied and researched everything I could.
I prepared for a home water birth and was reading, watching, searching and praying. I told my Creator that if He would lead me to understand and find truth and achieve, I would definitely want to help others like me. My 4th child was a homebirth turned into a C/S because I found out (Yes, I) while pushing and checking myself that I was breeched and my own midwife didn’t even know it.
Everyone panicked and I ended up in the E.R.
So this birth was my second attempt to home birth only with no conventional support or even alternative support. My only option was birthing in a different state or going to a birth center which we were NOT going to trust.
Everything was doing well while pregnant, I ate healthy (raw food, organic foods, not much meat, healthy smoothies with greens a lot, teas, vitamins etc…). I thought/meditated/prayed, educated myself, took my prenatal and once again I was reminded about how I might not get what I want as we found that our baby was breeched! (Like my first homebirth attempt).
I did not let this scare me, I prayed and focused more, and worked at letting go of my fears of the past. I found a chiropractor that knew how to help with my sacrum which was out of line, and although I found him only 5 days before I birthed, he manipulated me several time until the day of birth.
At this point we had only known that our baby had gone from posterior to breech to finally tranverse.
We still went with home water birth as if all was well, we stepped in faith, and ready to be in the hospital for a C/Section if needed to.
I, awoke in the middle of the night with cramps like I needed to go to the bathroom and realized that the cramps weren’t passing. I thought I was having these contractions again which have somewhat annoyed me for the past few weeks and decided to prep the water and clean around just in case. Husband and daughters awoken and were helping out, and my husband checked me and found I was 6cm dilated. Then for an hour or more, I didn’t dilate so I decided to go to bed thinking it might just not be the day to birth yet since it wasn’t painful or like the other births I recall.
Husband said to use the pool to relax since I was already up, so I did.
Within minutes in the water, I started having intense contractions (still wondering if I was going to birth) and thought that perhaps it was going to border the pain feeling, but really, it was intense but not hurtful. About 1 hour and a half or more after stepping in the pool, I pushed our baby out only to find out that she was exactly well placed, head down, the proper way, exactly as what you’d read in a midwife’s text book! She came in well, completely relaxed and well rounded (head to toes)! It was my shorter birth I’ve ever had and the fastest and easiest and with very little pain. I still look back and believe I was scared (when I watch my vids) deep down because I kept speaking in my head against all the words of fears I had heard from friends, family and especially docs and midwives, but our baby was fine and the biggest of all.
All my babies ranged between 8lbs+ but my two home births (attempted home birth was a 9 pounds, and my VBA3C/S was a 10lbs + baby!!!! both girls).
Because of these 7 births, I have learned much in 18 years, and I want to dedicate a part of my time to help educate women or become a midwife or doula or something with birth and mothers/teaching/training/guiding/encouraging.

How do I become like Karen or Kerry or Nancy? Where are those classes to become a doula, or hypno-doula, or such?
If you want to share anything it would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

Thanks for reading me. I’m also starting my new pregnancy and preparing for another homebirth as we found out we are just recently pregnant. This time I will have hypnobabies as my extra tools. 🙂

Blessings to you both, and Thanks Kerry for your pursuit in finding what you were searching for. I’m personally glad you are a woman that insist even if it took many roads of pain to get where you now are. Truly I am.

Natacha (is my birth name, but Eliya is my Hebrew name from my Creator). Also, I am French Native and probably my English might still be confusing. Sorry if so. I appreciate your patience.
(sorry for the long post, although, it’s really the short version of my story haha)
