“I mainly listened to Easy First Stage in the center position the rest of my birthing time and used the Peace cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort) at the beginning of each wave.”

Both baby and I were really healthy throughout the whole pregnancy. He was in the perfect position for birth, had been extremely low for weeks already, and my midwife and chiropractor kept saying how amazed they were that my pelvis, uterus, and everything was so strong, balanced, and healthy. I had also been experiencing birth signs off and on for about 3 weeks, so because of all of this, we all thought birth would be much quicker than it ended up being, but my bag of waters was so big and strong that even though he was really low, his head was cushioned so much by the big water bag that it made the dilation process take much longer.

I lost the first tiny bit of clear mucous plug in the evening of my guess date, February 10th. February 12th at 3:30 AM, I woke up and noticed a small gush of liquid coming out and another little gush on the way back to bed. I also started getting clear pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) about 5-7 min apart. Another 3 gushes came which made me think I had a tear in the amniotic sac, but I guess it was just part of the mucous plug as midwife tested that evening and water was still intact. I tried to sleep some more and 6:30 AM got up to take a warm shower. When my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) began, I listened to Special Safe Place (Hypnobabies hypnosis track to guide you to a special safe place with your baby), Birthing Day Affirmations, and Deepening Your Hypnosis (Hypnobabies track to deepen the level of hypnosis) in order to sleep some more.

At 2:30 PM, our doula started heading our way, as pressure waves were around 4 min apart, lasting for 50-60 sec, and getting stronger. I focused on staying hydrated and well-fed throughout the day to keep my energy levels up and kept busy around the house as much as possible. Once I woke up and for half the first day I listening to Birthing Day Affirmations on repeat and they were amazing! Around 4 PM once our doula had come, I listened to Deepening again to get deeper into hypnosis before heading to the birthing center and put in Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies’ main birthing time track) before getting into the car.

At 8 PM we drove the 50 min to the birthing center and to our big surprise found out that I was only at 1 cm. I actually remember laughing when the midwife told me, thinking she was joking! 😂

I thankfully didn’t let that affect me negatively as I know women can walk around partially dilated for weeks and go from 0 to 10 in a very short amount of time, so we went home again so I could try to get some rest and keep working from the comfort of our own home. Our doula went home with us as well and slept in the guest room until we needed her.

I got about 1.5 hours of sleep before my pressure waves were too close together and too intense to sleep through. At 9:30 AM we went to my chiropractor to see if that could help move things forward faster.

Back at home, I did more lunges and also walked up and down our stairs and the curb outside which helped get the waves much closer together and even more intense. Strong hip squeezes and counter pressure on my back helped me stay more comfortable and relaxed as I had a lot of intense back pressure during the waves. I was not able to be in the off switch during the waves but I was able to relax my face and hands during them while in the center switch. I mainly listened to Easy First Stage in the center position the rest of my birthing time and used the Peace cue (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort) at the beginning of each wave. My husband also did the Relax cue (Hypnobabies cue to instantly deepen hypnosis) with a firm hand on my shoulder, especially when the waves got more intense, and it helped my face and hands relax fully, making me much more comfortable.

We got to the birthing center again at 3 PM and now I was at 9 cm with just a paper-thin lip left on my right side, but it would still be a little over 8 hours until he was born. My doula was able to help break my water by using massage and counter pressure when I laid on my side. Once the water was broken, his head fell down in my birth canal right away, and pressure waves turned into pushing waves.

After 2 hours of pushing in different gravity friendly positions, his head hadn’t come past my pubic bone yet, so they had me lay on my back to help him get past it, which he did, and 4 pushing waves later he was born! The midwife told me afterward how surprised they all were because after 44 hours of birthing time and over 2 hours of pushing, I was apparently talking when he crowned, and he did not have a small head! 😂

Shortly after birth, my body started realizing how tired it was after my 44-hour birthing time and only 3 hours of sleep. My husband was awake enough to drive us home though so we got to sleep in our own bed 4 hours after he was born and spent all of Valentine’s Day falling in love with our little man! 🥰

Before starting with Hypnobabies I was worried about the 50 min drive to the birthing center but that fear went away and now we ended up driving there twice. The second time I was at 9 cm when we got there and it was really not that big of a deal. 😅🤷🏼‍♀️ I just sat in the car with my warm wheat pillow on the bottom of my belly, listening to Easy First Stage, so I was quite comfortable and could have easily driven twice as far! 😊
