Diane’s Perfect Hypnobabies Birth Despite Change of Plans

“The drive to the hospital was completely comfortable to the point where I started thinking I should just go home. I over road the switch accidentally when my husband turned into the hospital and immediately felt a wave (which I wasn’t feeling at all prior). Brought myself back into hypnosis and very calmly checked in and waited.”

I always visualized my birth happening like it did with my first, pressure waves starting at night and leaving for the hospital quickly with intact bag of water. Instead, I woke at 40 weeks 5 days texting my doula out of frustration that it was still not birthing day and telling my mom that I couldn’t handle another day. My husband was supposed to go into work until the last day but when I woke up I just didn’t feel well. I asked him to stay home and extra hour with our daughter while I slept a little longer. I knew he had to go to work so I decided to rally and get up.

As soon as stood up, my water broke! It was so unexpected but incredibly perfect! I was able to get ready and get my team together calmly and without disrupting my daughter’s routine. I played “Your Birthing Time Begins” and cried out of excitement and mourning that it was the last time we were a family of 3. It felt good to get the emotion out. We had breakfast while I listened to my Birthing Day Affirmations and I waited for the waves to begin.

Soon I decided to put on Easy First Stage and relax on my ball. I had some waves, at first 15 min apart and rather quickly 5 min. As soon as they hit that point I told my husband I was ready to get going. I was having trouble concentrating with my toddler around so I felt the hospital was the best place to be.

The drive to the hospital was completely comfortable to the point where I started thinking I should just go home. I over road the switch accidently when my husband turned into the hospital and immediately felt a wave (which I wasn’t feeling at all prior). Brought myself back into hypnosis and very calmly checked in and waited. I don’t think my midwife thought much of anything was happening so she explained that we might try some natural methods of induction and to prepare to need a little Pitocin. She checked me and I was 4-5 cm, very stretchy and 70% effaced. I felt amazing and so comfortable but then I could tell things were getting more intense. No methods of induction were needed as I started imagining my cervix softening, opening and relaxing.

I needed antibiotics so I settled in the bed to get those as well as have my vitals checked. That’s when things changed. The nurse became very concerned about my blood pressure. I’ve never had high BP before. Unfortunately she was terrible at hiding her concern which made hypnosis a little harder. After ordering labs, we found out I had preeclampsia (not diagnosed prior). I had planned a water birth and now I was told it wasn’t possible. They also wanted continuous fetal monitoring. Because of this, they kept making me get back in the bed because they were losing the babies heart rate.

Through this all I listened to Easy First Stage. What was amazing was that I heard something new and important each time. My nurse was bothering me, but I heard the track say that my medical professionals were interested in my health and the health of my baby, keeping me calm.

Now things really picked up. From this point forward it was not comfortable but I did not give up on my tracks. My subconscious really kept me calm. I knew I was close but a quick check showed I was a 7 or 8……this discouraged me because with my first it was still hours. The midwife reassured me that it wouldn’t be long because of baby’s position. At this point I told my doula “I’m about to tell you I can’t do this anymore, but we both know what that means.” I also never asked for the epidural, which I did with my first birth. My subconscious didn’t even let me consider that option.

Transformation! After the next pressure wave my doula turned me and I felt the baby slide down into my birth canal. I yelled “I have to push!” And started. My nurse and midwife were not in the room. She ran to get the nearest doctor (after calling nurse twice) and I pushed regardless. Someone would catch the baby!

I pushed for 20 minutes. Feeling incredible pressure, but didn’t feel tearing (even though I did a bit). My pushes were much more effective with this birth and baby came out screaming and pink!

My hypno-baby, Clara Mae, was here! Weighing 9 lb 13 oz!!! I visualized a 5 hour birthing time (needed 4 hours for the antibiotics and I figured the extra hour would be a good cushion) and that’s exactly how long it was! I also had my preferred doula and the midwife I saw most often (who I want to be best friends with) attending. So despite the change of plans, my birth really was the perfect birth for me.
