“I made my way into the pool and breathed quietly for a little while before my body began pushing during the waves. The midwife said after one wave “It sounded like you were pushing during that one, were you?” I answered “maybe”. She responded that if I wanted to push that I should do that.”

Hypnobabies Home Waterbirth. October 14th my third Hypnobabies baby made her grand arrival!

Birthing person relaxing in birth tub during Hypnobabies Home WaterbirthI’ve had 3 successful homebirths thanks to Hypnobabies, and each birthing time (Hypnobabies term for labor) has been so different and special, however the last trimester of this pregnancy did stir up some doubt that I had to work through.

At 29 weeks I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, and I was able to manage it with diet and exercise thanks to my Joyful Pregnancy Affirmations track. I would listen to it while I did my walk each day.Birthing person in tub with daughter holding hand during Hypnobabies Home Waterbirth

At 34 weeks I took a fall and had to be monitored for pressure waves (Hypnobabies term for contractions), and I listened to my Joyful Pregnancy Affirmations track in the hospital to stay calm and keep baby in.

At 36 weeks baby flipped full breech and thanks to Hypnobabies Turn Your Breech Baby track, baby turned head down the night before our scheduled ECV.

They were consistent and felt more like birth waves than the ones I had been having off and on for weeks, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up, so I got out of bed and went into the living room to sit and enjoy the quiet.

When it was time to get my kids ready for school the waves were still coming every few minutes but didn’t seem to be any stronger or more frequent and so I packed lunches, and drove my older two to school, but decided to skip doing morning walk club with them. I just wanted to go home and try to rest. I messaged my midwife to let her know what wasBirthing person side-lying in tub with partner holding hand during Hypnobabies Home Waterbirth going on and found out she was at another birth, she wanted her back up midwife to come check me, and I told her I didn’t think it was necessary, that I felt pretty sure this was going to fizzle out by lunch and that I would let her know if things progressed.

Once I got on the phone with her back up midwife, she asked if I would mind her coming out just to visit in case I needed her later. I thought that was a pretty good idea and said okay. She got there a bit later and we went over my background, I ate some food, we talked. At this point she asked if I wanted an exam before she left. I’m pretty sure that even though I was handling things very calmly she had some idea from my midwife that I could look quite calm and actually be in active birthing time. I agreed to a check because I was very convinced this wasn’t our birthing time, and I was surprised when she told me I was a very stretchy four. After eating, things slowed to almost nothing and she offered to leave so that I could rest, or just enjoy some time alone. I was convinced that I was right and today was just another day of my body warming up for our birthing time. At around 3 I decided I wanted to take a nap and I went into the bedroom and laid down on my left side and listened to my Special Safe Place track. At the end of the track, I felt one intense birthing wave, I listened to Easy Comfortable Childbirth, and felt 2 more waves. They were spaced quite far apart, but we’re intense and I decided to tell my husband that I might need to call the midwife back. This was at 4:30. I texted her and she asked if I wanted her to call to assess, or to come back, and I had two waves back-to-back while standing. I asked her to come back, that this was time. I mentioned possibly taking a shower to relax a bit, but once we hung up, I decided to go back to my bed and lay down again. I texted my doula and asked her to come as well and then I started my tracks again. Both had an hour drive and about 30 minutes after I laid down, I had one pressure wave which caused my daughter to do a sort of whole-body movement and then my water released in one warm beautiful wave. I was already wearing a Depends and I texted my husband to come help me. I had experienced most of Transformation (Hypnobabies term for transition) in the quiet and peace of my room with just baby and I there to experience it.new parent just after birth holding newborn baby

The midwife and doula got there at 5:45 and 6 respectively and the living room was a blur of activity while my husband and older kids set up the birth pool and I chatted with the midwife and bounced on the birth ball. I began feeling a stretching sensation and wanted to get into the pool very much. The midwife asked if I would be okay with an exam to make sure I was far enough along to get into the pool and I agreed. I was told I was fully dilated, but that baby’s head was not engaged.

Newborn baby wrapped in purple towelI made my way into the pool and breathed quietly for a little while before my body began pushing during the waves. The midwife said after one wave “It sounded like you were pushing during that one, were you?” I answered “maybe”. She responded that if I wanted to push that I should do that. That I should do whatever felt right for my body and my baby. That permission was wonderful because with the next wave I began bearing down to bring baby girl into the birth canal. I pushed for about 10 minutes and birthed my 9 pound 3 ounce baby girl with no tearing. She is now 5 weeks old and is so perfect. I loved my Hypnobabies Home Waterbirth.
