Background: We used the home study to prepare for birthing time. This was my second birth but first natural birth and first Hypnobabies birth! (With my first I had an epidural very early on right after my water ruptured. I never even felt a single pressure wave before they gave me an epidural with my first!)
At 3:30 AM on November 22 I was awakened by stomach discomfort. I stood up, thought about what a strange feeling that was, and then went right back to sleep. A little later it happened again. And again. I was 38 weeks and 5 days! I really didn’t think this was birthing time. I was able to keep falling asleep and I was only a little uncomfortable! I thought I just had a stomach bug! I used my finger drop technique and stayed in center. I kept sleeping off and on until 6. At 6:30 my husband got up for work! He noticed I was uncomfortable and asked if it was my birthing time and said we need to call the doula! I told him no! I’m fine. I think I just have a stomach ache. You go to work!
Well he insisted that he wasn’t going to work and kept saying we should go to the hospital! So by 7:20 we were in the car headed to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital around 7:30. When we checked in, they were in no hurry to get us in a birthing room! They didn’t think it was my birthing time! And to be fair, I wasn’t sure if it was or not either! I was calm, in control, and the pressure waves were not that intense! Really, I still thought I simply ate something bad!! In the hallway on the way to a birthing room one of the nurses asked me if I was a C-section patient. I was that calm and collected!!!!
Well I got in the room, changed into a gown at their request, and even gave them a urine sample. I also gave them my birth plan to look over. Then, the nurse asked me to lay down so she could check me. Her jaw dropped. Her eyes got wide and she looked at me in disbelief. She said, “Girl! You are COMPLETE! What in the world?!”
Suddenly, a midwife on call rushes in. I start to feel very strong, intense pressure with the powerful urge to push! So I pushed just twice! And then my beautiful baby girl was on my chest at 7:56 AM!!!!!!
Everything happened so fast. My doula didn’t make it. My OB didn’t make it. We didn’t have time to let any family know. I birthed my baby. In my own strength using my Hypnobabies techniques! My hubby didn’t help until 6:30 am. I didn’t get to the hospital until 7:30! I birthed at 7:56!!!!! It was the most beautiful, EMPOWERING experience in the whole world. My proudest moment.
