Angelica’s Successful Hypnobabies Homebirth VBAC

“I finally had the urge to push and my midwife encouraged me to just listen to my body and I knew my body would act appropriately. 8 minutes of pushing and my baby slipped right out, very easily and comfortably at 1:29 am when I was 42+3.”

3 years ago, I had a terrible experience birthing my daughter. Long story short I was sucked into the cycle of interventions and what I remember of it was absolutely terrible resulting in a cesarean. This time I chose a doctor who swore up and down he was supportive of my natural birthing wishes and that I was more than capable of achieving this. At my 36-week appointment he said many things to me including what I was not “allowed” to do so I switched to midwives for a planned home birth. I made it to 42 weeks with no signs of nearing birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) and started to get discouraged thinking maybe something really was wrong with me and why was I not able to do this.

I listened to Fear Clearing (Hypnobabies special track to release fears) and Come Out Baby (Hypnobabies track to encourage baby to be born) several times during my 41 weeks which helped calm me down. Finally, right at 42 weeks, I started having pressure waves (Hypnobabies word for contraction) that I actually thought was gas at first. They quickly progressed to 2-3 minutes apart within 3 hours of my first waves. I quickly turned on your Birthing Time Begins (Hypnobabies reminder of all the tools, tracks and techniques for birthing) and felt instantly at peace. They lasted into the morning but then slowly digressed to 30-45 minutes apart. I tried to stay positive and we made it through the day and into the night again, some waves being 2 minutes apart, some with an hour in between.

Again, I was discouraged the next morning but my doula helped me to stay positive as well as my positive Birthing Day Affirmations. My midwife offered to check my cervix, only if I was comfortable with it and at this point I was. I was roughly 7 cm which was great although my cervix was still very posterior so my doula encouraged me to go on about my day as it could still be a while. My waves were not consistent at all, again some being super close and some with huge gaps between but I continued to listen to Easy First Stage (Hypnobabies main birthing time track) and Birthing Day Affirmations to stay focused and calm.

I tried to rest again that night. Waves were very strong but I wasn’t timing them since I was trying to sleep. My husband contacted the midwife to come and my doula arrived shortly after. They were getting much stronger and eventually were too uncomfortable for me to stay in bed so I moved to the birthing pool. My waves were increasingly more challenging to get through but I stayed positive and hearing my doula saying “Peace” (Hypnobabies cue for instant physical comfort) through most of them really calmed me down and allowed me to breathe through them.

I finally had the urge to push and my midwife encouraged me to just listen to my body and I knew my body would act appropriately. 8 minutes of pushing and my baby slipped right out, very easily and comfortably at 1:29 am when I was 42+3. I was so calm and focused I forgot to turn on the pushing tracks. We waited about 20 minutes to cut the cord. The placenta came easily as well and I remember just being on such a high. 5 days later I still can’t believe that I was able to have a successful home VBAC with no pain medications or interventions at all. I will 100% recommend Hypnobabies to every expecting mom I see. Birthing Day Affirmations was by far the most helpful track for me.
