Amazing, Quick Hypnobabies Hospital Birth of Baby Maverick

“We didn’t find out the sex of this baby, so as soon as he was born I heard my husband say, “It’s a boy!” And then he was placed on my chest, it was so surreal that he was here. I was amazed at how quickly things progressed and so in love with this little man. I am blown away at how well Hypnobabies worked for us, the recovery period has been going great so far, and big sister is head over heels for her baby brother.”

Meet Maverick Elijah Moss, born 07/26/17 at 9:43, weighing 8lbs 8oz and 21.5in long. He is my second baby but first hypno-baby.

I wanted to share my amazing birth story with you all now that we have been home and are somewhat settled in. I apologize if this is very long, I was just blown away how well his birthing time went.

In case anything in this story might be a trigger warning please have your Bubble of Peace ready.

I was starting to have pressure waves on and off for the first couple of days before my actual birthing time began. This was quite frustrating for me at the time, because every time I would feel regular waves I would start getting my hopes up that my birthing time was starting, but then the waves would stop. It was the worst kind of tease, but I tried to stay positive and told myself my body was doing its job preparing me for my birthing time.

Wednesday morning when I woke up I started having pressure waves so I stayed in bed for a while relaxing and just waiting for them to taper out like they always had. After about an hour they seemed to continue so I started timing them, and they were staying steady at 5 minutes apart and were lasting about a minute long each. I decided to get up and walk around and eat something, in the past these things always made my waves stop so I was kind of nervous because I wanted this to be my real birthing time. To my surprise they kept steady throughout everything.

I knew I needed to be at the hospital at least 4 hours before because I needed antibiotics, due to my GBS being positive and my husband, Lee who was timing my waves thought we should head to the hospital. I listened to my Hypnobabies tracks on the way to the hospital while my husband called and let them know we were on our way and told them we were wanting the birthing room with the tub. We got to the hospital around 3pm and they let us skip triage and go directly to the room because we called ahead of time.

My nurse checked me and I was 5cm, I had to be on the monitors the first 30 minutes, which was fine especially since I needed IV antibiotics and had to wait for them to infuse. I stayed calm and relaxed through every pressure wave, at this point I was just using my Finger Drop and Peace and Relax cues which was easier at the time because my nurse was in and out of the room a lot and that way I could talk with her. My doctor came in about an hour later and wanted to check me, she said I had changed was about 7cm. My nurse acted surprised and said, “Wow, I wouldn’t have guessed that, you act so comfortable.”

We were able to get up and walk, we had to meet back in our room every 30 minutes so they could listen to baby’s heartbeat for a few minutes. This was good for me because I made it my goal to try something different every 30 minutes. I decided to get in the tub around 7pm, which was so relaxing especially while listening to my Hypnobabies tracks. My doctor came back and rechecked me and said I was still 7cm but baby was descending well, she told me she wasn’t on call that night but would come back in for me if I gave birth before 9pm.

I decided to walk more, in hopes of having our baby before 9 so we could have our doctor. My nurse told me to call for her if I started feeling pressure. It seemed like my waves changed so suddenly and my breathing involuntarily changed and every time I would exhale I would make “oooh” and “ahh” noises. I kept telling my husband that I thought I needed to pee, even though I just did. He told me to call for my nurse because that was probably the pressure they were talking about, I didn’t want to because I still didn’t feel any urges to push yet. When my nurse came back to the room and heard me she wanted to check me because she suspected I was going through transformation. I must’ve been, because after she checked me, she called the whole crew in, unfortunately at this point it was just after 9pm so she called in the on call doctor.

I think all the commotion in the room and the fact that my waves were very intense at this point, caused me to lose focus, making the pushing stage different than I pictured.

When the doctor got in the room, she asked if I wanted her to break my water. Originally I had wanted it to break naturally, but in the moment I changed my mind, which I’m glad I did because it felt very warm and soothing. One of the nurses was listening to baby’s heartbeat and I heard her say, “It sounds kind of distant, I wonder if baby is OP.” They told me baby was right there and asked me to push. It took some coaxing at first, but when I finally did he was here in only like 3 pushes. Turns out he was OP, which is probably why he took a little longer to descend than expected, but pushing surprisingly was super quick. Looking back I wish I would have been able to stay focused and maybe eased into pushing, that may have saved me from needing repairs, but that wasn’t what I was thinking about at the time.

We didn’t find out the sex of this baby, so as soon as he was born I heard my husband say, “It’s a boy!” And then he was placed on my chest, it was so surreal that he was here. I was amazed at how quickly things progressed and so in love with this little man.

I am blown away at how well Hypnobabies worked for us, the recovery period has been going great so far, and big sister is head over heels for her baby brother.
