Alison’s Calm, Perfect Hypnobabies Hospital Birth

“I was so calm, and my husband and doula kept me so comfortable. “Easy First Stage” on repeat, affirmation cards hung where I could see them (my favorite – Every time a birthing wave ends I smile and feel happy, and I did just that!), dim lights, water and snacks offered in between waves.”

Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis really does help you enjoy a much easier and more comfortable birthing! Use code hypno1528 for 10% off our Hypnobabies Home Study Courses.

My second baby, but first Hypno-baby. For all the mamas out there in that situation. Trust the affirmation: this is a new birth and a new baby, unique unto itself.

Long and loving post. Thank you for letting me share. And shout out to Shannon Lee, our hypno-doula.

Gentle waves (Hypnobabies word for contractions) started 12/9 around 2 am and I listened to my “Birthing Time Affirmations” and talked to my sweet baby and told him I was so excited to meet him soon. I had a feeling it was truly the start of my birthing time (Hypnobabies word for labor) because the waves were in my lower back.

I had gentle waves off and on while at work but didn’t say anything to anyone. A co-worker said she’d plan on covering for me later that week because she “had a feeling.” Around 3 pm I went to the chiropractor. I’ve been going twice a month all pregnancy then once a week the last trimester. I told the chiro what I was feeling and asked him to pull out all the stops, either I wanted to get my body more comfortable to rest up or encourage my body to continue with the birthing waves.

On the 15-minute drive home I had stronger waves every 5 minutes on the dot and thought this is the real deal! When I got home, I asked my husband if he works that night, he said no and asked why – I said good I think we are having a baby.

I started texting with my amazing hypno-doula (same one with us for my daughter’s birth) as my husband got some things packed up and organized. For a few hours I wasn’t sure if it was really my birthing time. The pressure waves weren’t always consistent or a full minute, and only were in my lower back. I took a bath but couldn’t get comfortable. Eventually I laid down and listened to “Fear Clearing” (Hypnobabies track to help release fear) track and the waves continued to get closer and with my doula’s advice we made the decision to call my mother in law over (she was staying with our daughter) and head to the hospital.

That next hour had some of my favorite moments – riding some birthing waves on hands and knees in front of the Christmas tree with my daughter climbing on back to rub it. And exactly how I visualized my entire pregnancy – I gave my daughter a bath and got her ready for bed before leaving for the hospital. Our last hour together at home was so peaceful.

On the 20-minute ride to the hospital I listened to “Easy First Stage” (Hypnobabies main birthing time track) and breathed. We met my doula at the hospital, and I got the biggest hug from her!

The next 7ish hours were a blur. I was so calm, and my husband and doula kept me so comfortable. “Easy First Stage” on repeat, affirmation cards hung where I could see them (my favorite – Every time a birthing wave ends I smile and feel happy, and I did just that!), dim lights, water and snacks offered in between waves, tens machine and tons of counter pressure on my back, yoga ball, tub, bathroom breaks, moving around, almost sleeping between waves sometimes. My husband even got to rest his eyes for a while I was so relaxed while in the tub. The nurse was the sweetest and very supportive of our goals. Only intermittent monitoring, and I loved how she would monitor before/during/after a wave and then rub my back and tell me I’m doing amazing.

Eventually the birthing waves became more intense and I needed both my husband and doula to support me and give counter pressure and encouragement. My doula recommended I kneel on the bed and lean over the raised back. And then my water broke! My doula paged the nurse to give her the update and my body was starting to push. I stayed in that upright kneeling position, and the moment I almost lost my breath and my cool my husband pushed my Zenbands (headphones) back down over my ears and told me to listen and breathe with him. I love him so much for doing that! I kept pushing with my body. 8 minutes after my water broke … I felt my son being born. 🧡 they helped me turn over and my midwife placed him on my chest. It was absolutely perfect.

And when we went home the next morning my almost 2-year-old daughter met her brother with open arms (literally) and I bawled. So much love.

It was such a healing and amazing birth. I know the most important factors were:
Hypnobabies tracks every night (I always fell asleep, and some tracks I never heard awake)
My husband and doula’s support and trust in me
My PT, chiropractor, and pelvic floor exercises
My confidence in my body and my baby
My visualizations of having a “perfect for us” birth

Thank you Hypnobabies!
